True freedom!(For a Week)

No longer will poor new player questions be trolled in the Help section!
No longer will misinformation and trolling be thrown at you from every direction!(50 active tribe members, 20,000 paying treaty members ¦] )

A week free from posted kills of new players in starting clothes by 800 humor titans like it is a accomplishment worth mentioning!
A week free of forum bullying to Claeyt who wants nothing but this game to grow and detests new players being killed!

PRAS PRAS HALLELUJAH!

In celebration, if you post in this thread an educated response showing effort put forth explaining why you feel players like Chief/MM is detrimental to this game, and that he/they are in fact nothing but noobkillers I will reward you with:

high quality worms!
high quality seeds!
(Roanoke only)

Hate on my friends, and receive rewards! Image

I'd like to take a different tact to the usual route of pointing out Chiefs flaws. We all know he's a noob killer, has never won a fair fight, and when faced with one... He tends to spend up to half an hour or so running away instead.

It's related to playerbase, but not the starting characters quite so directly. Lets mention how Chief has driven away so many of the more experienced members who once played this game. The members who contributed to the player knowledge base. The people who updated the wiki. The people who posted in the help forums. The people who tried to make the burden of players in their first few weeks a little easier. The fair traders who didn't monopolize.

Did they demand tribute? Did they desperately seek notoriety through self aggrandizement? I guess contributing to the game isn't possible for someone who displays those attributes.

I honestly wasn't expecting this to be a genuine offer, but wanted to see how deep the rabbit hole went.

Thanks for the tokens, I'll ensure they go to someone who will get the most out of them.

This....

First off, I think the Chief can be really funny sometimes. Some of his posts can be really well done and you can see he put a lot of work into them. But he can also go waaay to far on the forum, so much so that he seems clownish and doesn't seem like a leader of where the game is going or a top player with much to say about how the game should be played. If he wants to be a master-mason of the game and one of the voices in Jorb and Loftar's ear then he should act like it. He should help people like some of the other mason's do. He should become one of those experienced players Jalpha was talking about.

Make some Youtube videos about how to play the game or something instead of making YouTube videos about raiding someone or killing noobs. Sabinati updates and maintains the wiki. Kand and MagicMann answer every damn help question they possibly can. I see TechXKnight and Potjeh on the help and advice parts of the forum and answering noob questions on the forum. The Chief doesn't seem to want to help new players learn the game at all yet he thinks that he's earned the same level of respect as the mods and players who are doing that. He needs to help people like they do and change his forum post style if he wants to be treated like the mods or like a mason.

My greatest worry of the game is how much Jorb is listening to him, and spending time with him and talking to him on team speak. Some of the ideas coming from that aren't where this game needs to go. I very nearly rage quit the game when I saw a picture of Jorb raiding with the Chief and killing a character that someone had spent weeks or maybe months building with a character that Jorb had simply dev'd into the game alongside Chief's character that had 800+ stats from legacy hummus. It sickened me that they would kill some 100 stat player like that and I can't believe a dev would do that to his own game. I've heard the argument that the character would have died anyways but Jorb saved Chief from a murder scent and who knows, maybe the guy pops on with a high level fighter with only one Titan there. It was ***** and another part of me just wants to leave Salem behind because of it. It'll be exhibit number one when I do quit and why I won't be promoting this game much anymore on other game sites.

More ideas about this whole thing:

I don't blame the Chief for how low the population is entirely, but I do blame him for a small part of it. My proof is how low Plymouth is. It rarely cracks 30 players as a high during the day and I doubt it has 100 daily players overall. This proves that the Chief's killing of noobs and wiping of bases with legacy characters is hurting the game. He needs to find another way to punish non-treaty players besides killing them, or maybe drop the treaty all together. He talks about justice but he'll never be what the Candy Gang was at it's height, and he'll never have the support of non-tribe members like the Candy Gang had on Roanoke with non-gang members. Maybe he doesn't want to be liked like the Gang was. Maybe he wants to be the bad guy. If he dropped the treaty tomorrow and said that anybody could come to play on Plymouth and he'd protect them from raiders as long as they kinned him he'd have 100 players by Christmas to talk to on Plymouth at the same time. I don't know if he wants that. I think he actually wants an entire server to himself and the few people still there, like a rich kid who doesn't like to share his toys. He's missing out by not having a vibrant server like Roanoke. We've got 4 or 5 large groups now and much more balance.

I understand and like that this game is perma-death. It makes it a risk to walk out your door in game and I wouldn't change it to non-perma death. The problem is that there's no risk or consequence anymore for pre-hummus nerf legacy characters anymore. An 800 stat guy across the humours built on legacy food is impossible to kill and his lean to is impossible to get to in a major vault. If the Dev's nerf the braziers then that leaves everybody else vulnerable to these humour monsters. Sure they might lose power or an internet connection while raiding. Sure they might be bug exploited and trapped somewhere, but it's really, really unlikely. There has to be a way for these characters to risk something or it's not a game anymore for them or the people who are playing against them. It's something else.

Dealing with legacy characters has now become one of the hardest parts of the game for most new players:

One idea I thought of while talking to Binks about nerfing braziers is being immune from braziers on a claim with lean-to's of the criminal you're tracking or have evidence on. Maybe if you're in tracking mode you could enter have some sort of brazier nerf for a claim that held the criminal or that the criminal had permissions on. It's complicated but I'm just throwing it out. There was a wall climbing idea a long time ago that could work with it. Maybe if you're tracking you could climb the criminals wall without setting off the braziers so that you could summon them. I don't know.

I threw out the idea of character decay a long, long time ago. If humours very slowly fell day by day like walls decay to a certain level between 200-500 maybe then it would lead to more competition and a fair chance. Maybe 1% of humours per day or somewhere around there. Something has to drag them down to levels that are playable against for new players.

Anyways, back on topic:

Since last winter I've been hoping that the Chief out-grew his methods. I hoped that instead of forcing people to pay the treaty and kill them and level their bases when they didn't, he'd come up with something more interesting that didn't ruin the population. After the hummus nerf when we we started shedding population like crazy he kept on killing brand new players who didn't stand a chance against him. He killed them for sport, and he killed them for no other reason than he could, like a teen hitting an infant. He drove the people away from Plymouth and now it's dead. He could have promoted the game. He could have live streamed or helped the game grow but he hasn't. He's hurt it. This game had so much play-ability and promise that it makes me sick how our top players help to hurt it.

The Tribe's now 9 month fight with the mods is stupid on both sides. Both sides take it too far and if instead he, PmP, YGM and the Candy Kids had just ignored the mods this forum would have been a lot better. I kind of wonder why they don't act like Darwoth and just have contempt for the mods without arguing with them about every stupid little thing. The mods have been really bad sometimes but they've had an impossible job to do. I have no doubt Jorb will eliminate or lessen Chief's ban partly because of their growing relationship. The mods will be pissed and all this **** will continue forever.

I'm sure the Chief is already planning the one year anniversary party of the fall of GH just to piss off the mods. I'm just sorry that instead of putting all that work into that thread and video he's going to make, he's not going to do a Youtube series on food and gluttony, or a video explaining how to hunt all the animal types. He could probably get a lot more views and actually help a new player instead of what he usually does.

The funniest part of all this is that if he dropped the treaty tomorrow and started to really ranger like the Candy Gang does and protect the server rather than slowly wiping it one character at a time, he'd probably make 10x as much money from all his stalls than he does with the treaty because of the huge growth in population that would happen.

Roninsword just give my worms and stuff to the first day-one player you meet in Roanoke. Better yet give them a metal axe and a slingshot and some advice like I do.

I think Claeyt's post covers the issue perfectly.
Nothing else to add but my approval.

And always hearing the same answers to these issues bores me to no end.

Let's not get too crazy, though. Chief is a polarizing member of the community, love him or hate him. I'm sure he will be more than happy to answer all of this when he can post again. (He really seems to love the attention and would hate to miss the opportunity to make comebacks in this thread.)

Just remember that rules violations are that. If there is specific rules violations that need discussed, there's the moderation discussion thread. Let's keep rules discussion there and what we hate and love about the Chief here.
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.
