So yes, basically, and as far as I know (learning by listening around is not always the best source of information), you can track stolen goods. But it will not always send you to the stealer, only to the place where stolen goods are.
Nonetheless, those items must still exist, by exemple, I don't think my friend can track the scented food he gave me since I ate it all![]()
I don't know if it works when you build something with a stolen item tho, like a chest with stolen dry boards, or whatever.
