Blocked

I just recently heard about this game after playing haven an hearth for so long, so I downloaded the salem.jnlp file and my computer proceeds to block the file. I've tried unblocking it but to no avail. This is more of a technical problem more than anything else. Could I have some help with this please?

Turn off your firewall, once the game starts you can turn it back on.

In what way does the computer block the file?
Are you an administrator of your computer?
Are you running any Mac (Apple) OS? They completely blocked all java execution a while back, but I didn't follow up on the matter.

@DarkNacht: recent OS'es should propose to add a firewall exception when a program is blocked.

Problem is that it's not just firewalls, but antivirus programs, too. Some specific ones come to mind that have the goal of safety over user discretion. Make sure you check by disabling ANY security software you have. I'm not sure if it's been fixed, but in one instance, the AV program had to be completely uninstalled (sorry, forget the package off the top of my head). Also make sure you router is allowing the proper traffic through. Salem uses HTTP and ports TCP 1871 and UDP 1870 to connect to the servers.
