Is it safe to keep items in hollow stumps & old logs?

I know people can steal the things, what I mean is, will they stay put or will they disappear over time?

I have yet to see an old log or stump disappear, and have found stumps next to long abandoned bases that had items relevant to the base still inside, so it's probably much more likely that someone will find it than it will decay, if it can decay. That being said, they suck for storage anyways... Only a few spots inside so you're better off just building a bunch of baskets if you can't find a nearby base with boards for boxes or don't want to cough up the dough for nails to make your own.

It is safe as far as they wont disappear unless another player stubbles across it an takes it out

a player can either, take it items out or destroy the stump where all items are deposited on the ground.

afaik if the stump has empty slots and is on unclaimed land there is still the possibility for it to spawn inspirations/worms etc.
