Purchased Stolen Items and Scents

Postby GoldFever » Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:29 am

To my knowledge flintlock muskets can not be crafted, only purchased, correct?

After buying one and shortly thereafter receiving the valuable benefit of exploring the scent system for the first time, it turns out that there is a scent attached to an item, correct?

Since selling below the Boston price only makes sense if selling stolen goods, does this mean the individual who sold me one tracked me through the scent attached to the item? If so, does it mean that as long as I carry that item he can continue to track me?

Final question, I can't seem to see anywhere if holding this stolen item actually makes me summable or if only the thief who actually took the item is summable? Since I'm not dead, I'm assuming I'm not summable.

If this is all correct, an interesting trap for new players to say the least. Been actively reading the forums for a month now and managed to avoid that tid-bit of info--if indeed this is correct.

What makes you think it was scented?

Selling below Boston makes sense if it is scented or not. Who the hell would buy an item you are selling for ABOVE boston price?

The Scent for larceny only stays on the ground for a week or so. After that your scented item should be free.

Only the person who stole the item can be summoned.

You on Jamestown perhaps? Been hearing rumors about someone selling stolen items to track them.

Since flintlocks can not be crafted, correct? Still waiting for an answer to that question. That also explains the next part, if can't be crafted, they can only be purchased or stolen. No one is going to buy and then sell in bulk below Boston price so it only makes sense to do so if it is stolen. But that assumes it can not be crafted. Can someone confirm that please.

As to why I think it was scented, no trouble for a month and then bam, a few hours after purchasing it, cleaned out. Could be fate, but odds are against it.

So, if I stay offline for 2 weeks, I should be safe then. Interesting game design function that encourages players to not play.

Thank you for confirming I can not be summoned. Figured that or I'd be dead.

No it cannot be crafted. However they are obtainable free of crime.

If someone leaves the game and/or fails to pay their upkeep of claim/town, one can freely bash their walls and loot their stuff free of crimes.

Someone once bought it yes.

Also: If you HAVE commited crimes you can be summoned, also when you are offline... And if you dont have a leantoo or personal claim you will be insta-killed during the summoning, which then can be done anywhere.

You bought it , maybe it can be tracked but you CAN NOT be summoned for it because you didnt steal it.

If you think it stolen put it on an alt for a week so the person can't track you.

Nobody has come up with exact times tracking evidence lasts, but I would guess it doesn't take a full week (4-6 days most likely) as murder crime scenes only last 9 days.
