That's why I play Wurm Online - a direct comparison to Salem with respect to crafting complexity, etc. However, Salem has great potential if the devs would realize that perma-deleting someones hard-earned effort is a no-brainer formula for failure in my opinion.

Salem rocks! Perma-Death sux! A PvE server would rule!

Postby earn2000 » Sat Aug 24, 2013 9:28 pm

Greetings. This is a message to the Devs/Owners of this game.

I am a relatively new player, signed up in February 2013, played for a few hours and saw 'perma-death' and probably logged out at that point ...but now I recently (5 days ago?) decide to dig up my registration code and start playing again... (on a whim, and probably a google search hit on "crafting mmo")

I thoroughly research new games before dedicating too much of my time to them....because games (to me) are supposed to be a way to relax after work (IRL) and not be a major pain in the @ss or anger inspiring.
I am a peaceful individual. I never murder in games. Rarely participate in PvP. Call me what you will....(I'm sure my thoughts against PVP/murdering/thievery/criminal acts are equal/stronger than yours are against PvE lovers.)

OK, my brief first impresssions: (5-6 days playing about 4-6 hours a day.)
There is a lot to like about this game. The crafting complexity and grind mechanics are excellent and I don't get bored. I actually look forward to the next skill, etc. I just this morning got the Settling skill, for an example of how 'new' I am to this game. I have probably spend 33% of my time reading forum posts and wiki pages and 66% playing the game.
From what I've read so far, I am very impressed with the gameplay mechanics...and I really want to play this game! ! ! But..... *sinking feeling* everything in the forums seems to point to the fact that I will eventually get pissed off and ragequit this game. Could be days, weeks, months, but eventually, somebody will eventually raid/steal/destroy my stuff...even if I spend hours and hours building up defenses...

I have this personal problem. Apparently, the Devs think people like me are in the minority in this? Or just hate us? (and they lock posts when people discuss this?)
When I lose something that I spent time building/gathering/etc, it really irks me.

I'd be willing to pay a monthly subscription fee to avoid all the a BS that comes with murderers, perma-death, and whatnot. I've seen a pattern with games that 'cater' to PvP lovers, it breeds assholes. I've seen it on Minecraft servers all the time. At least with Minecraft, there are plenty of servers to choose from, and you can probably find a server that matches your idea of a 'FUN' game.

I do not find it "FUN" to have my hard earned/gathered belongings be Raided-Stolen...but I've dealt with it before. (on other games) It's the perma-death that is what is 'over the top' here. (At least in the form that I understand it.)
And to further complicate matters, there is apparently a half-crazed megalomaniac/murderer on one of the servers that has so much power/wealth/stats that they threaten everyone on the server that doesn't 'join their town" ? ? ?

Bottom line ( and to get to the point):

I see great potential in this game. I am on the fence as to whether or not I should keep playing, because it sounds like I'm going to get griefed/@ss-raped in the future....and I'm just trying to have some fun.
I shall keep reading up on how to protect myself and my land/claims/stuff....but my initial impressions are that it's impossible to 'truly' protect yourself from high-level people. (Is this true?)
If so, then I must say that I'll be searching for an alternative...because the one thing I cannot 'put up with' in a game is losing my stuff due to the evil intent of other IRL human beings. Yes, I am a hermit and proud of it. (And hermits are probably a good percentage of your demographics, Devs, so you might want to cater to us a little bit if you want to have a successful and profitable game in the future.)

And it also irks me that you lock posts that you don't agree with. Even if you don't have any intentions of rolling a PvE server (ever), it still make you look unprofessional to shut down posts and not listening to your player base. Your crafting system is awesome, please let people play your game peacefully....even if it's just ITEMS sold in the ONLINE STORE (real money) that allow people to lock down important stuff?

Please, before locking this thread, let me know if there will ever be a patch or add-on or separate server that will allow people to play without fear of losing hours/days worth of hard work? If the answer is 'never', then I'll know my path, and I will thank you for your time. - Cheers.

Now please leave. This is not the game for you and your ideas are stupid.

Full loot PvP and Permadeath are two of the central concepts to this game they will never be removed, not by an pay to win item and not by a PvE server.

Mods: can you please start merging these into a mega-thread instead of locking them, so that people stop making new threads about this constantly?

There will not be.
Ideas that are overly redundant are either merged or the thread is locked. Given the prolific nature of threads requesting non-pvp servers they're pretty much just locked.

People will continue making new threads about it regardless but sure, I can do that.

I know this is the "No PermaDeath" thread, but can I just say how much I love the permadeath concept? Between Salem and Haven though, other games just don't feel the same. I'm bored without permadeath now. Just sayin'.
