I see pastries but I see no cake, pies yes but no cakes!..Cakes :D

We have oil, eggs, water, flour, and sugar, that would make a very flat cake.

You don't use yeast to make a cake. You use it to make bread (and thus the sourdough starter). You use backing soda (sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar) to make cakes, breads, and pastries that you want to quickly rise.

There are a handful of cakes that do use yeast. Baba au rhum, I think, was the name of one. It's certainly less common, though.
