Plants, Mushrooms, Forage, Wander, Rocks

Postby Sipo » Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:13 am

I've been testing around Boston for purities of items found on the ground. I noticed that maybe the purity of items change not by type (rock, mushroom or plant) but rather by each item individually. Meaning that autumn grass, Milkweed Roots and Oakworth, each gave different purity element in the same area. I know it depends on my proficiencies too, but I have some questions.

Is there a difference between wander and foraging when looking for items?
Does purity depend on item type such as rock or plant, or is it individual for each item?
How much do proficiencies influence this?
Does it affect animals?

I was planning on putting together a small file that helps me find different items with different purities...but maybe this means I will need to put this together for each single item.

Wander moves faster, forage spawns more stuff.
Each individual item does have different purity.
Proficiencies have a big impact on purity, I'm not sure of the exact equation but several people have said that its about 1/10% per lvl.
I don't think that proficiencies affect animal purity.

Does anyone know the exact equation?
To find rocks(Lime, Granite, Flint), is it Mines&Mountains? (I'm talking about randomly finding them on the floor, not mines)
Is Salt considered a rock?
Berries and plants in general, that is Hunting&Gathering right?
Frontier&Wilderness would only be for Fishing then?

Is this a complete list of what is affected by proficiencies, or this just sort of...what's known so far? Just seems some things aren't affected that you would think would be (i.e. Thread and Needle affecting clothing quality or Cloak and Dagger affecting combat)

But what is coarse salt considered? Also, the wiki es very outdated. And it seems nobody knows exactly how proficiencies influence getting stuff from the floor. I heard 3 different ways already.

I believe that is the complete know list. Clothing does not really have quality and Cloak and Dagger does not directly effect combat, but they can help with slotting clothing: http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Artifact

Wander spawns more than just walking but the difference between wander and forage is that wander moves faster than forage but forage spawns more stuff than wander.

Small correction: forage lets you see more of what is spawned. It's all spawned when a map tile is loaded, but based on character attributes, you may or may not see it all. The trick is that if you change movement speeds, you won't see what's there until you move out of range and walk back. Some things will appear, and others disappear, however, it was all there to begin with. They both also allow you to see more than just "Walk," and "Run" will hide most of the forageables.
