Habitation and Time Ticks

Postby pistolshrimp » Sat Aug 03, 2013 12:04 am

I have a couple of questions around a similar theme. Basically I'm trying to come up with a formula to determine a rough time range for when an area was last frequented by another player.

Sorry, I'm having a hard time wording my goals here, I've tried to type it up a couple of different ways and it still should convoluted as hell. Let me try to explain a bit more.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but, I believe:
Planted tree to grow full size: 7 Days
Skins to dry on a rack: 8 Hours

So if you came upon a base and you found dry skins but small tree you could make an assumption that the last time a person used this base was between >8 hours but <7 days ago.

Another example is that if it takes 60 days for a claim to expire from a full bar, presumably it's start, any claim you find you can assume it was visited at most 59 days ago, putting an upper limit on the time frame

I'm looking for ways to reduce the variables (and not rely on drying racks and trees). Some specific questions I've had on this theme are:

How long does it take for a cut stump to turn into a hollow stump?
How long does it take for a cut log to turn into a hollow log?
How long does it take for blackberries to regenerate?

Secondly I'm trying to figure if there are any indicators to give you an idea to the frequency a plot of land is visited in absence of a base.

Specific questions on this would be:

Is how filled hollow stump are an indication of how often the areas is loaded and thus visited?
If players tend to gather up all granite boulders does finding several granite boulders in an area indicate the absence of players (or at least mid level and higher players)?

Thanks in advance to those of you who can help refine my formula.

Fields particularity pumpkin fields work good for this, I frequently use them to determine how long ago raided bases where abandoned.

Tree's go threw growing stages that are visable. A truely small tree would mean the player was active within the 8 hour range of the dryed hides. The size of tree vs the length of time since it was planted is hard to describe in writing. You would be better able to determine this if you had grown a few.

Tree stumps to hollow stumps seem to take approx a month. Blackberry bushes appear to take more than a week.

How long does it take for a cut stump to turn into a hollow stump?

Random, they turn from decay hits.
How long does it take for a cut log to turn into a hollow log?

They never turn.
How long does it take for blackberries to regenerate?

Random, determined by decay hits.

Heh.
Never read anywhere about tree stumps turns into hollow stumps when decay hits, but i assumed it was how it worked,
just as i assume that when decay hits a hollow stump it spawn random stuff inside,
like worm having 35% ish chance, stone 10% etc etc etc and snake skull having like 0.35% chance
can anyone confirm that? or is it just my imagination ^_^

I think Jorb mentioned item spawns are rolled whenever the area is loaded, but I'm not sure.

Are decay hits related to player activity?

In theory they shouldn't be, but in practice they seem to be checked on area loading, seeing how player activity seems to affect terrain decay.
