Diminishing returns for artifice

Postby Potjeh » Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:40 pm

I think that it's incredibly boring that everyone's goal for a set of combat artifice is an identical set. This is simply because certain artifice, like snake skulls, are straight out better than the rest. Now, there's nothing wrong with encouraging people to get a skull or two, but having them in every single piece of clothing is kinda ridiculous, and leaves some of the lower end artifices completely useless (they can't compete for any slots with polished buttons etc). What I'm proposing is that the more of a type of artifice you have in your set, the less benefit you derive from them. For example, your first snake skull would give full benefit, but the second one would only give 75%, third 50% etc. Hopefully this would result in people wearing something other than the admiral outfit.

I don't think that would solve anything. It would make the best items rarer because you would need to slot them first instead of last but the items with the most slots would still be better. A better solution would be to increase the selection of high level clothing and artifice and make it harder to slot anything that does not have matching proficiencies, that way you would have to make more choices instead of just stockpiling the best crap to slot into the best cloths.

Why would the order of slotting be relevant?

Sorry I miss read you post.
That is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how it will stop people from all wearing the admirals outfit.

retarded and would do nothing but make things more tedious and annoying, every game ever made has items that are "the best" and those items are sought after by everyone, making it so that it is better to have bucksin inlays or something than the top end **** on an end game combat set makes no sense at all.

and why would ***** up artifacts have any effect at all on the clothing people wear? and why should it matter if everyone wants to wear the same **** anyway?

I hate how everyone looks the exact same with the exact same **** slotted. Boring as all *****. Would love to have a few different sets of cloths and even actual armor for things to look better.

Diminishing returns would just be awesome to have.

Don't really understand why people are so keen on diminishing returns. Probably played too much Diablo 2 or so. How about a different approach: The more offense/defense one slots in his clothing, the slower he becomes.

I like that, heavier armor makes you slower :) maybe it should also makes you take more dmg from braziers ;)

nice, yet more "great ideas" about combat from people who have never fought anyone

most games with encumberance based armor systems use primarily ranged attacks, even melee hits have a large arc on them. the games are not permadeath and are designed from the ground up with pvp in mind, thus people are inclined to fight instead of run as soon as they make contact, there are a wide range of speed slowing "snare" abilities to be used as a counter to faster players and there are bottlenecks built all over the game to promote combat.

in this game there are no viable range attacks aside from a single shot which you can not reload while moving, so the above retardation would do nothing but make it so nobody ever slotted a defense artifice, or if all artifices slowed speed that nobody ever slotted **** because being even 5% faster than the other guy in this game means getting away every single time, which is the real point of this thread anyway.

those without end game combat sets who have no idea the amount of effort and resources spent creating them who also cant be bothered to make one themselves trying to get those that DID put in the effort nerfed, this entire community is like a line at a welfare office in harlem.
