So it's more of a "if you can't beat them, join them" kind of situation, since the players that just want to play 1 character and do everything with him will be punished in the long run (lose everything if he dies) It's best to just create an alt for different things like throwaway characters for doing crimes knowing that you'll lose him and just transfer all the goods onto the main account.

Yes, that is how Salem (and H&H too) are designed. The game mechanics feature permadeath of a character, but the same game mechanics make it very easy (compared to other MMORPGs) to "level-up" alts by feeding them food and inspirationals.

Personally, I play only 1 character (just as I did in H&H), that's my preference because I treat Salem as an RPG, but I'm aware that I will be losing him sooner or later and that will very likely be the end of my adventure in Salem as well.

Sadly, yes. The devs have expressed great disdain for alts in the past and labor to make having a single character more profitable -- but it's difficult to strike a balance. No matter what, if someone has the resources and time then they can build another character. If not through inspirationals and food then through botting or what have you.

100% what MM says. I can't even look at Diablo unless it is hardcore. That rush you get from knowing one lag spike or misstep is the only thrill I can get from a game.

God Bless Perma Death.

And you feel that way knowing that you'll lose a lot of time and a character that you've grown to like and have a sort of "connection" with, but once you start building your characters up to be simple tools and don't relate to them in anyway (+ the factor of knowing you won't really lose much) takes away that feeling of fear.

I'm fine with permadeath (I love playing roguelike games), but having the game steer you towards the path of creating tools rather than characters takes quite a lot away from the permadeath feature.

BaronBowden i'm just another one giving my opinion, and i can't get in the heads of the Developers, but you've got to understand not everyone has lots of free time to go around developing n characters in the case any of them dies.

Instead of the permadeath why isn't there a punishment of:
- 1 week ban for the dead character
or
- some kind of joke mask the dead character would have to wear in the case he´s killed
or
- loss of skills like when you're KOed by animals

permadeath is a core feature and won't be going anywhere.

honestly ped, from what I see.

Perma death will really only set you back initially. Once you have an established plot and have stored some food it will honestly take less than a day or two to get back to where you belong.

The real issue with no perma death is the economy would just become well worthless. Without real sinks through using inspirational and food and reforging lost equipment to a lesser extent without perma death the crafting aspect would really have no meaning.
