The Tribe was alerted of your stupid WIN condition and as such realized that you would quit sooner if we didn't raid you than if we did. So it looks like our smart play of leaving your base intact worked perfectly as now you have quit and there is one less non-treaty payer on the server.

We Win.

Darwoth confirmed mad this guy wasn't on Jamestown.

@OP: doesn't mean you win, but it's obvious the tribe isn't winning, either.

You might want to read that sentence again.

Good evening,

The fellow's entire Salem existence consisted of living in fear we'd find him.

He spent 6 months living in a tent under an overpass, hiding from people who didn't know he even existed, and considers it a victory we didn't smash everything he owned and use his corpse to reenact Gunsmoke episodes. He swims in our ocean.

I'm comfortable calling this a win. The value of the sword of Damocles is that it hangs, not that it falls.

Faithfully,

President JOHN F. KENNEDY: Every man, woman and child lives under a nuclear sword of Damocles hanging by the slenderest of threads.

BLOCK: So Professor Mendelsohn, it's come to be used as sort of the notion of impending doom. Is that the original intent, do you think, of the metaphor of the story?

MENDELSOHN: No, not at all. But it wouldn't be the first time politicians misread the classics. The real point of the story is very clearly a moral parable. It's not just, oh, something terrible is going to happen, but it's about realizing that what looks like an enviable life, a life of wealth, a life of power, a life of luxury is, in fact, fraught with anxiety, terror and possibly death.

And so that's the moral lesson of the original story, which has completely, I would say, gotten lost in the common usage. We all use that expression, oh, it's a sword of Damocles. But the point was all this stuff is meaningless, power, luxury and wealth, and if you know what's good for you, you'll be happy to be a much lesser kind of person. And that is not a sentiment I expect to hear from most politicians.

BLOCK: Well, Professor Mendelsohn, thanks for explaining the sword of Damocles to us today.

MENDELSOHN: My pleasure.

BLOCK: That's Daniel Mendelsohn, author, translator and professor of humanities at Bard College.

Prof. Mendelsohn is obviously a douchebag who doesn't know **** and wanted to have all his years in school mean something so he decided to interpret something differently in a vain attempt to justify all those years of school wasted.

I'm aware of the moral of the parable. Regardless, the Sword of Damocles itself remains a useful concept to convey a situation where the threat of an outcome is a larger deterrent than the actual outcome.

I also spend very little of my time worrying about what professors of humanities think.

I tend to do that with anything regarding this particular source.
