in-game system for town/village recruiting

Postby almightygod » Mon Jul 01, 2013 4:55 pm

Salem needs some sort of social booster shot. Whether it is a chat improvement or a UI for recruiting. New players are thrown into an empty (socially) world. This is great for a solo game, but this is a multi-player game, so...

I've been trying to get into this game for weeks. The default answer from folks, when I ask about playing cooperatively is "check the forums." The forums are pretty dead right now. Perhaps even a newb island (small world) set to peaceful, so new players can learn the systems and meet people. These are my opinions.

Everything sounded ok until you said this.

This game is all about trial and error.

Forums and irc work fine for everything you posted really unfortunately the forums are less populated then the game.

Thor - Trial and error will still work in an isolated newb setting. I don't mean that you'd be able to keep your character or anything. You could learn the game systems and meet other players.

Dallane - I've been using the forums each time I log in with no luck.

I just think a game that is focused on a multiplayer theme, whether it is pvp or pve or whatever, should have some built in element of communication. Area chat would be enough except there are 50 or fewer players on each of the servers whenever I log-in, and only a couple in the area I'm in. I'm just offering some suggestions to help breath some life into the game.

Ah don't get me wrong here, I too would like to see more renovations!
And a public channel within each server accessible from anywhere would be sweet. And some kind of trade channel too.

Global chat doesn't fit in this game. The low population is why it feels so empty not a missing global chat.

Making town with random people doesn't work in this game. So a system helping find random people is quite pointless.

(Somewhat) works in other PvP games if the members are willing to deal with the shenanigans that occur.
