I should say I haven't been playing Salem for several days now so maybe it is some kind of server lag going on but since no one else is talking about it I assumed it is fine.

as for an application that decreases ping? I dont think that is possible with software. if such a magic software exists please tell me when you find it =)

lol ok im gonna let u know when i find it.

a 1m connection might be too ****** to load all the resources effectively. Before my isp upgrade, I was frequently getting 1-2m download speeds and maps would take forever to load whenever I teleported and resources would frequently fail to load causing the client to crash...and then I'd have to wipe the java cache or ender's .salem folder and try again. Not to mention it would take an hour or more just to update the client whenever an update was required. So yeah, I don't think resource handling in the game is optimized very well for slower connections, or for connections with frequent packet loss.

have you tried to ping the server? last time i checked the game was using a very little amount of data. so even if the deranged person above is applying something about the speed of your connection, then i still place my money on the bad routing
or what darkslide suggested, where do you live btw whitepoint? :)

that might be the case after a whole lot of playing and an up-to-date cache, but I can confirm that for slower connections (non-broadband), it can take VERY long to load even just the inventory icons on an empty cache.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Some things within the game may effect your "lag". For instance, when my fields are ready for harvest, there are more polygons to be rendered, and my computer slows down. Are you lagging near your fields? Also, there is a skin pack in the artifice section of the forums with lighter graphics for easier computing by your system. Pixelicious i believe.

I use pixelicious and tend not to walk by my towns farms and seem to do just fine, often running two clients. I don't know if you are using a laptop or not, but even something as simple as pluging it in (instead of running off battery) seems to help my performance.

i've not had those problems with the farms, but pretty sure martin mentioned that he had some lag from time to time when near his farms.
but we are all pretty much guessing what it could be, until he starts replying on the stuff :)
