Furthermore, there is a problem with the inherent usefulness of humours in general.

In Haven the increase of attributes is always desirable as they serve a clear purpose for the development of a character regardless of which role he wants to fill. There's never a point where you have "enough" constitution or agility, for instance. That makes FEP events something you keep yourself invested in throughout the entirety of the game, early to late.

In Salem humours stop serving any real purpose after a certain level. There really exist no incentives to keep grinding for humours beyond the 100s since pretty much anything can be accomplished at those numbers. The only reason to keep grinding is for pvp. It's basically the equivalent of FEP events only raising health, stamina, intelligence and strength in Haven. If that were the case you'd quickly lose interest.

So really it's a lackluster gluttony system that has rather pointless gains after the mid-game. Thus there exists the need not just to update how gluttony works but also how humours work in general. If something like Yellow Bile had more uses than just combat people might feel more compelled to care about it. As it is, unless you want to pvp, why bother?

That's how I see it, anyway.

I think that even in HnH stats stop being useful at some point, with the exclusion of PvP. Once you bring your dexterity, strength, agility and perception high enough to stop worrying about soft caps then what other purpose is there? Only PvP as far as I can tell.

I think this thread has done an excellent job summarizing the opinions from several players who truly understand the mechanics. Hopefully The Great Spirit is able to do something meaningful with this input.

I don't get it. It's not that hard to improve gluttony if it is really broken because it has one optimum food recipe per bile.

1.) Give invariance some teeth.

2.) Make more recipes / balance existing ones based upon difficulty to achieve them

There is a certain difficulty in hunting bear. Bear meat is just about the best ingredient for all four biles atm.

Create some fish that have a similar level of difficulty in fishing (bait required / wear and tear). Have fish recipes as good as the bear ones.

Add in domesticated animals.

Add in some rare forageables like truffles.

You have a good system - it just needs fine tuned. I don't think it needs a grand overhaul.

Essentially the best players/towns will have to master hunting, foraging, fishing, farming, and ranching if they want to use all of the best recipes.

Mastering 1-3 will get you good characters in the 2-400 bile range. Mastering all 5 takes you to 4-600 bile range.

Ultimately Purity and alchemy will allow you to get even higher.

Hopefully they are getting close to having the answers to the gluttony that we are all on the edge of our seat to see!
