You can have just as much fun playing/building without it giving you passive experience gains

You are exaggerating the numbers there, but yes, I had a lot of fun as a noob, exploring the wilderness, and finding all kinds of different inspirationals that helped me progress my character past basic survival.

You are again exaggerating, quite a bit this time.
It'll take you just a few days to have a char ready to start building your base.
I had fun doing exactly what you describe, namely building my base from lowend > highend, while gaining skills I needed. You find enough inspirationals for that, hunting for meat to keep your digging and building efforts fueled.
I never felt that getting to that point took to long, or was a grind at all.

I have no idea what you are talking about, or what I have done to you to deserve such attitude. I play Salem, not H&H. I played H&H for about 2 years, and that was fun, but enough. Salem is the future.
I wouldn't consider myself a grinder. I only once bucketgrinded in H&H, and that was to replace a lost character fast. I play to have fun, help out other players, RP some, and have a good laugh.

I believe you can, there's no need to add a system that has failed to deliver in a very similar game for that.
There's another issue called purity atm, but that's not what this discussion is about, and I'm still hopeful that given some time, devs will balance stuff out.
