Some thoughts & Request for debate

Postby NeiroShop » Sat Jun 15, 2013 1:49 pm

Hello everyone. Those few who know me know me as a Trader on Jamestown.

As we all know this game has gone downhill the last few months not only because the updates were devastating for the players but for a bunch of other reasons as well.
at the time of writing this, this is how the server status looks

Plymouth

Roanoke

As i have barely logged in lately and more so just to check up on a friend or two. I know i have not made it any better myself. However as i am sure most people that do like me and await a new patch do so with hope bordering on Faith.

If and god forbid theese next few patches take a long time to get here or are similar to the poison mushroom patch(which however decent in the grand scheme may be will still be seen upon as a hideous excuse of a patch at the state the game is in), This game will not recover. If it does its a miracle. Sadly i am not a believer in miracles. (it could be said to recover from this state it requires a miracle i know.)

I humbly request the players & mods to discuss what could be done to turn this around. Are there any fansites for salem? are there any other communities than this one and or "supersecret guild" ones?

the Candy gang & tribe seems to have done alot to improve the atmosphere in the game however i doubt how long that will hold.

My wife & my best friend who i started out with a little while before the purity patch hit us had barely planted their first few fields working hard to buy some purity seeds (not even high but around 30%) and the purity patch hit us. My wife & friend both quit i stayed behind enjoying what little trading & building i could do.

Even the forums only get a new thread every couple days anymore. I hope devs understand the next patch will mean an awful lot to most of the players not currently playing just checking up on the game. I am still waiting on Archeage and was bored so i figured id vent some.

I'm keeping the hope high !! Image

The longer it takes, the better the patches will be !!
Jorb & Loftar are working very hard as we speak, implementing Animal Hubandry, mounts, new building, more customisation, new gluttony-system & way more....

In the meanwhile, Paradox is trying to figure out how to add an item to the cash-shop (Alchemy Pack)

i do agree, i figure about 75% of the people quit / paused since the purity patch came. and the numbers keeps decreasing as more content comes out that don't appeal to people.
i think roanoke was peaking 200 people online.

what to do about it? no idea, but seems like people ran after purity came in, just like last time, with the purity zones if anyone remember that.
personally i would like to see more stuff to build / craft. but that might just be me.

It's hard to believe you if you sound that optimistic. =)

Though yes, we're all probably going to have to wait quite a bit before the next big update because there need to be fundamental changes and this takes a lot of thinking and theory crafting. Jorb is notoriously good at thinking about these things so it's worth giving him a bit of trust on the matter. The wait will be worth it and to rush out insignificant content now would be to harm the situation.

In my opinion the mid-level game is the best part of Salem at the moment. It requires the least grind to develop your settlement and your character for the most reward. When I say mid-level I mean humors around 50-100. This is when you can start committing crimes and working towards larger projects, your stats are steadily increasing now that you have decent infrastructure, and you can even begin terraforming.

From hear-say, the late game is the worst part of the game. The infinite stat grind spiral begins and it feels hopeless from the start. Every step of every project that you take is a huge time sink that has an immense time, energy, and resource investment with virtually no gains and a high chance to lose everything. It can take days of work and immense luck to punch through a few walls to raid, raise purity by a few points through purification, or increase your stats by any amount by improving your fields.

If things in the late game really are this bad then there needs to be some change and turn around before there is recovery and growth.

xD this post made me smile yet feel very sad. The devs have promised us a lot of things they will have a hard time keeping their word. Maybe they shouldnt go saying so much ;)

I think that the game will continue with the same populations of this month, and when the patch comes hopefully there will be a peak like always, but in my opinion the game right now has low population because of multiple factors:

The end game is ultraboring, like TeckXKnight said, that is express in the lack of content that the game has right now.

Being a social game, most people dont want to even try after looking at the populations, there is almost 0% of making a succesfull town right now, at least you bring friends.

There posibilities of making a life as trader/merchant, in all the server is low, cause there is no one to buy anything.

The game interface is awful, it needs a better tutorial, i remember stax saying that around 80% of the people quit salem in the first 10min of the game, and i think hes right.

There is nothing to be tested.

The 3 servers right now are for placeholders to test the updates upcomming, when all the updates are ready and work fine, the 3 servers will die, maybe wipe or a new server(that is the same thing) and that is also something that is getting people away, cause no one wants to work in something that is gonna be destroyed.

There will be no wipes (unless something drastically changes, which it probably won't) and you will not be trapped on your server when new servers are made. The infrastructure and code necessary to allow characters to migrate between servers already exists.

I would like that comming from jorb or loftar, but as they dont post about this stuff, people never know whats actually gonna happen, and can only thought in things that happen in h&h, and can happen here.

They have already said this a long time ago.

I don't think the game population statistics should be viewed as some sort of tug'o'war, in that if the population does reach really low levels, that doesn't mean that the game is lost and there are no other potential players that will play the game later on when it's more polished. I know that I'll definetly have a look at it when it shapes up a bit, even though right now I'm not really playing. Here's to hoping that the optimism of some people will be rewarded by jorbtar with some nice content eventually :)
