New Gluttony Guide - Call 4 Input

Postby Aeneas » Sat May 25, 2013 12:50 pm

Hi everyone,

with the recent changes regarding the recipes a lot of the available information about gluttony seems outdated.

Therefor i am thinking about compiling a new guide about what food are best to glutton which humour at what kind of level.
I think a guide like that will be very helpful to starting players.

But well as i am myself pretty noobish i require your help.

Please post your favourite gluttony food at the respective levels , your favourite gluttony strategies and everything else you deem helpful.
please also consider the availability of the ingredients - a new player does not have access to 200 fields to mass-produce cabbage crumbs.

i will then compile the information into this post.

Thanks a lot in advance

with kind regards
Aeneas

And here is ver 0.1 of the Guide :

######Levels 5-10

Welcome to Salem New Player !

Regarding gluttony your basic task is running around and forage for things to gobble down. The area around your servers capital is a good start for that - you are safe there unless you leave the city claim. Or you could get a port from the wilderness guide of your trust to the real world. Make sure nobody kills you in the wilderness - if you see a read square on your radar - log! off!.

Usefull Skills : (check the wiki for prerequisites)

-Foraging
-Hiking
-Nuts and seed
-Mushroom Hunting

Blood:

For early levels just eat Berries-on-a-Straws, you can also mix it up with eating them with Roasted Chestnuts. Note that they also raise black bile - better use them in combination with Berries-on-a-Straw.

also note that Crowberry Stalk counts as "any berry" in Berries-on-a-Straw recipe!

- Berries-on-a-Straw
- Roasted Chestnut

Phelgm:

Milkweed roots are found in the grasslands - they should be enough to get you up to 10. If you have the skill already to make wild salad - even better.

-Milkweed Roots
-Wild salad.

Yellow Bile :

Lavender Blewits are good for starters but they are only found after you aquire Mushroom Hunting.
'Shrooms-on-a-Stick are a good addition to the pure Belwits but be carefull this one also gives BB so best use a combination of both.

- Lavender Blewit
-'Shrooms-on-a-Stick

Black Bile :

just eat Blackberries all the way to 10. Throw in some roasted Chestnuts for variance.

-Blackberries
-Chestnuts

######Levels 10-15

Time to start hunting. There are a lot of guides around about how to end the lives of those rabbits and crickets. probably you will get KO'd a bit before you have a working strategy. dont worry about it.

Its a good idea now to have a leanto somewhere in the wilderness with a fireplace to cook basic food. Make a slingshot for an easier inital attack. For getting plant fibre you can burn some milkweed roots in the fireplace and then wash them in the river near the capital. you dont need a bucket for it.

Skills :

-Small Game Hunting
-Simple cooking

Blood:
Start to mix that diet of Berries-on-a-Straw and Chestnuts with some Crickebab and Autum Delights.

- Crickebab
- Autumn Delight

Phelgm:
Loads of Wild Salad. if you dont live near a water source - just forage those Bulbs on the beaches near the Capital. Just dont wander of the city claim.

- Wild Salad

Yellow Bile :

As soon as you can kill crickets, start to massproduce Wortbaked Wartbites.

- Wortbaked Wartbites

Black Bile :
Crispy crickets are good. if you have the money you can invest in a cooking pot and cook witchhat mushrooms to get rid of the poisoning.

With fishing you could make Seaweed rolls - they also give sometimes YB. A viable strategy would be to start with seaweed rolls and then eat a witchhat or a cricket if one of the BB events happen.

- Crispy Cricket
- (cooked) Witchhat mushrooms
- Seaweed rolls

You could start collecting suitable foods from this topic: http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6459. It will be quite an untertaking making such a guide, but judging from your name, that shouldn't be a problem :) .

I can provide early stages of gluttony.

While getting into farming / more demanding recipes, you can raise your biles decently with foraged goods / simple skills to ~20 or even ~25 with a bit more effort.
That will make a big difference when building stuff, leveling ground, mining, etc.

Learn at least;
Survial Skills -> Foraging -> Lore of the Lumberwoods -> Hiking (this will give you access to Wander, use it at all times)
Optionally after Hiking you can learn Exploration -> Flowers & Berries / Mushroom Hunting / Nuts & Seeds (a bit more juice for foraging / recipes..)

Note that you also need Small Game Hunting to kill Crickets / Cricket recipes.

Blood:
- Berries-on-a-Straw
- Roasted Chestnut
- Crickebab
- Autumn Delight

For early levels just eat Berries-on-a-Straws (~5-12), you can also mix it up with eating them with Roasted Chestnuts (note that they also raise black bile).
When you can succesfully kill crickets, do some crickebabs to go with the two. You can also use Autumn Delights if you want to add some more variance.
(also note that Crowberry Stalk counts as "any berry" in Berries-on-a-Straw recipe!)

Phelgm:
- Wild Salad
- Milkweed Roots
- A Walk on the Wild Side

You can start with Milkweed Roots for starters, they are weak but you can find loads of them in grasslands. After finding some Oakworth and Lilypad Bulps just make yourself loads of Wild Salads! They are REALLY good and you can go all the way to 25 with them. You can also eat both to add some variance with later levels.

If you have some silver, Bearcup sells Walk on the Wild Sides in Trade Wind. Really good for Phelgm.

Yellow Bile:
- Lavender Blewit
- Wortbaked Wartbite
- 'Shrooms-on-a-Stick

Start with Lavender Blewit until you can kill Crickets (~12-15). With Wortbaked Wartbite raising YB becomes a walk in the park. You can also use 'Shrooms-on-a-Stick for starters and carry on with Wartbites / Blewits.

Black Bile:
- Roasted Chestnut
- Blackberry
- Crispy Cricket
- A Snake in the Grass
- 'Shrooms-on-a-Stick

Well known tactic, just eat Blackberries all the way to 10. After that you can carry on with Crispy Crickets / Chestnuts. If you want, you can try to tangle Timber Rattlers. They aren't TOO hard if you have Fencing / Spanish Sabre. Just don't get bit. You can again use 'Shrooms-on-a-Stick for starters and just gulp all the others.

Cooked crab meat is also a good yellow bile food. With Berries on a straw the type of berries used do make a difference, I don't have my notes with me at the moment so I will have to post them later on.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Alright made some notes of my own about Berries-on-a-Straw
Mixing all sorts of different berries together produced same gluttony values.

Code: Select all
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Input 1: Crowberry Stalk
Input 2: Crowberry Stalk

3,9   1,6   0,5   2,1
5,0   1,7   1,4   0,6
5,9   1,6   0,6   1,6
0,5   3,0   1,0   3,0

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Input 1: Huckleberry
Input 2: Huckleberry

4,0   1,4   0,8   3,0
5,4   0,9   2,0   3,6
6,3   0,3   0,9   4,2
0,3   5,7   1,5   3,3

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Input 1: Blackberry
Input 2: Blackberry

4,9   1,9   0,8   1,0
6,2   1,5   2,0   0,2
7,4   1,0   0,9   0,8
0,8   5,8   1,5   1,1

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Two different berries

4,5   1,2   0,8   0,9
6,0   0,8   2,0   0,2
7,1   0,2   0,9   0,7
0,4   4,8   1,5   1,0

And best in favor of blood (in 25,25,25,25 elements)

1. .. Made from Blackberry
2. .. Made from 2 different
3. .. Made from Huckleberry
4. .. Made from Crowberry Stalk

It does make a difference, from worst (avg. of 3,825) to best (avg. of 4,825).

So I guess for starters you should use mixed berries for blood and blackberries for BB.

All other berries on a straw are still useful for gaining health and reaching gluttony. The change in how foods react to different ingredients has proven to be a very interesting part of the game to explore as it gives more options for food and what they should be used for in Gluttony. I will have to look into Seaweed rolls and the difference the two most common fish have on them. From what i remember though there was not much of a difference.

Looking good so far but you might want to change this part to KO'ed since being dead in this game means rolling a new toon.

probably you will die a bit before you have a working strategy

I'd like to point out that you should use font colors, spoiler boxes and font sizes to make it a bit easier to read. (and all other font styling options as well..)
