Snakeskin coat was the first cloth that I ever crafted in this game. I just found the skins in the tree trunks while walking around. I wore it with pride for a couple of weeks until I found out I can slot it and I broke all three slots. If the clothes alone would have got me killed, the killer would only rob me of some sticks and stones, so not worth the trouble. I don't think cloth is a sign of wealth, as everyone can craft unsocketed cloth.
