bastard children should certainly misbehave and cause trouble as statistically, children from fatherless homes are MUCH more likely to become criminals.

Say these sentences out loud and without context of this discussion. In a public place, preferrably.

no ****. what a retarded ass thing to say.

Will they be compostable? Can we feed them to the turkeys?

The kids could be kidnapped or killed, making raiding more important.

Maybe one's partner doesn't have to be a player, maybe they could just be NPCs who live in your house(and require a house on claimed land to marry).

So what we're supposed to have if this idea was to be implemented is people will raid more often at targets who have children. Captured children will be used as child labours or target practice for the troops. Then we also have an NPC, I hope not purchasable, whose sole purpose is to give birth to under-aged labourers. Morally speaking, it sounds like Salem will be the focus of the year. Game wise, Jorbtar should rename it to Bangladesh: The Sim MMO.

May as well take this idea all the way and just make these "slaves" purchasable from the docks (off the boat) in Boston

regarding the complaints about sims and slavery...

Can there really be only one game in existence where your character actually reproduces? Having to keep your family fed and sheltered and all was a very large part of life historically. It seems reasonable to me to have your family play at least a minor and optional role in sandbox game like this.

Treating children like slaves isn't part of my idea. Children need to be taught, given toys to keep them happy etc. I wouldn't want them to be working on their chores all day like dogs. and as has been said, it isn't really like a bot because you have to do work yourself to have the children produce things like hay. it's more like an option for another way to get those things done which some kinds of players may find more enjoyable etc.

i love the idea about having them tied in to inheritance.

You can play with several of your RL friends and call it a family. For feeding and things, it's better to suggest the devs to bring back hunger system like he one in HnH and you'll have to eat every hour to survive. About children, when your current character dies, you'll get another to inherit the claim and all that, the only thing missing, if I'm correct, is skills inherited. So in order to validate your idea, said function must be replaced. Also, if we had babies like your idea suggested, what is the growth rate and when they become adult, what are their purpose in game, not just standing there, wasting space, I'm sure. And what if your main char dies when the baby is too young, will it suddenly pop up to become adult? But if in a village where characters of different account can get married and reproduce, it would add some atmosphere to it with children running around.

Children do not belong in this game. For obvious reasons already stated.

lol yeah of course you could play pretend family with friends. we already have the 'kin' things, which implies family. anyway this sort of thing is no substitute for functional in game npc/pet children in my eyes.

i haven't played HnH so i don't know how that hunger system etc works. hunger sounds pretty good though.

i'm not sure what you mean about said function and all. i haven't slept in over 24 hours now for various reasons so please excuse my reduced mental capacity.

growth rate of babies i would imagine to be at least a week and a half but not more than two weeks. it should take time and effort to produce a child.

they don't need to grow up at all as far as i'm concerned, though i can think of some possibilities that sound like fun to me. definitely not standing around. I wouldn't really want some npc adult character hanging around my town though, they'd have to be able to be sent off somewhere. this is getting into whole new idea territory though. I would love it if you could build them a hovel near your place and have them be a merchant to wandering/neighbouring players. You could give them a couple of resources to sell and set a couple of things for them to buy. it would be especially cool if you could write any speech text for them yourself. but you could only have one or maybe two and they could not sell or buy nearly as many things as a stall in boston. and they'd also keep some of your profits. some sort of system where you marry them off in exchange for resources or money would also appeal to me. maybe you could just 'send them out into the world' or back to boston if you didn't want them.
