So, how does the world's integrity remain intact when a character is killed, since there may be things (leantos, crime scents, &c&c) that still refer to them?

it is still "real and existing" and not entirelly deletted... you still can't rename another like that 1. but he is dead, not playable again :D

Also, I wouldn't be so lenient as to let you reuse a previously used character name just because you delete it. ^^

Given that, the most character deletion would do would simply be to delete the character from your list of characters, which is a purely cosmetic function. While that may still have some value, of course, I see before me a thousand posts of "my character is gone i just clicked delete and confirmed it what is this **** give me my money back", so no. :)

Also, being eternally haunted by a hundred empty eyes staring at you wondering why you never play them, just might keep people from making unhealthy amounts of alts. ^^

why not make a little folder where putting all the chars i don't need? or allow players to make folders where put their names in it? like "inactives" "alts" "whatsoever"

as i noticed who use alts (in big quantities) really DON'T care about little eyes xD they kill each day some!

And that is my point. What is the problem with "deleting" a character from the character selection/creation screen? Since there is no difference between a "killed" character and a "deleted" character, there is no "world integrity" to be concerned with.

Now, is there potential for abuse? What if I "delete" a character who has a personal claim. Would a user be able to create an alt to inherit that claim? If current mechanics remain, then YES you would be able to do that. But currently I can just kill a character and do the same thing. So, really, what's the big deal with a delete option at the start screen?

i noticed in some minecraft servers (java coded ;)) some blocks start to being "corrupted" and when loaded... crash the server
an annoying thing

i think a leanto, claimed and out of control (becouse the player it refer isn't anymore existing) will cause a crash or at least lag in the place
i often get java errors (using ender's tools... but i think that will happen too with default) which say "null_something_excepion"

something like "i can't find anything... so i kept moving forward in the events and then i'm stuck becouse i didn't find that something i need... and then i force quitting the process becouse proceding will lead to a harm"

i belive that's what java "thinks"

Then pass all the appropriate flags to the server that would be passed on character "killed"

If the addition of a DELETE button is a technical hurdle that the devs cannot overcome, then I question their ability. Of course, I don't really question their ability, but they give me no choice but to believe they are some combination of incompetent, not telling the truth, or don't care. Personally, I don't care if there is a delete option, but it doesn't mean that a delete option isn't worthwhile to the USERS (I don't put the needs of the wanna-be god devs above the users. I don't bow at the feet of a couple of turkeys coding java).

I like how you guys question the person who made the game on why you can't delete characters after they explain it. It makes zero sense.

I think a better option would be to have a check-box on every character that gives you the option to hide it from the list. Then one button to reveal all characters hidden from the list.

example;

If this is a best "feature" we get to prevent making 1000 alts it makes me woried about future of this game.
Just add some flag to hide them from the list..

Your active characters should be at the top of the list. I don't see why people ***** about this.

same comments from people who dont understand why do people ***** about no pathfinding. If this was game made 20 years ago for MS DOS yes people would not ***** as at that time but we are in year 2013 and adding such **** is like 60 minutes of work including testing they never do anyway. Not having things like that makes whole game feel like some students slopy homework.

It is quite simple, actually. For the most infatuated by the devs cult of personality, only the tears of other players are an acceptable sacrifice. Any twist of reality and any fallacy is employed to uphold the delusion that they are enlightened and superior. "PRAS!" Jorbtar and their sophomoric effort to be little gods of the small minded.
