Surely you would just use keys for this effect?

In HnH, yes. But here, you have to give keys to every citizen, and with this key they can just open gates for raiders.
In HnH you could create signposts, which worked like teleportation devices. You could set them up to allow citizens to teleport outside walls and not give them keys. This way they could freely move in and out, but couldn't just open the gates for riaders.

Be more rialistic (what i like in this game)! Dont give keys for everyone.
P.S. Sorry for my grammar mistakes, English is not my native language. Just studying :ugeek:

What do you mean? How can you not give keys to your citizens? Then they would be locked either outside or inside.
What's the sense of joining a village if you are locked outside the walls?

I mean you must check this person for a while before invite him into your city.

Make some kind of "check" levels - different keys or something like this. If you invite someone to live in your house in real life, you'll check whom do you give keys or not?

This isn't real life, this is an MMO. You are supposed to play with unknown people. As it is, cooperating with unknown people is only a risk.
Besides, in real life you can't make an army of alts to spy on random people.

Sure, you won't create a large and strong faction if you invite random people, but you still might have some fun.

This ^ +100, current spying paradise is just huge mistake, we have 34498 registered accounts I wonder how many of them were used more that once or twice

Checking player IP isn't bad idea, you could tell who is using proxy and who is not... hint: proxy user can be spy ;)

Other method that would limit spying would be initial payment for every Salem account like 10$ or 15$ as bonus you could pick pack from store to start game.
It would also help people notice that spending real $ is not so bad. But it wouldn't be free to play anymore, so some people may disagree.

Make character last names, so we could see in game character like (name give during char creation) John Procne (last name = forum nick) looks nice imho ;)

You can't check if someone is using proxy only by his IP. Proxies can mask IP.
Besides, letting players check each other's IP is not nice. It automatically gives info about RL location and ISP.
And it opens a way for people DDOSing each other. It may sound as tinfoil hat theory, but considering the amount of effort, time, and hate people put in this game I wouldn't call it that far fetched.

Let people play anonymously, but give mayors more tools to protect their town from their own citizens. Spies from other villages are only one problem. The other problems are turncoats, butthurt revenge takers or just griefers. IP checking won't fix anything.

You missed my point, my idea is that no common player would be able to check your IP, but if you want to join town then ONLY town mayor can see it.
If you are joining larger town people will ask you for some real data, so what is the difference? If you are using IRC, skype or TS people also can see your data.

Why town mayor would want to DDos new town citizens?

He might want to give / sell this IP to someone else. I don't know.
The bottom line is I don't know about any MMO that would let players check other players' IP.

But as I said, spies are only one of the problems. And IP checking doesn't even fix that, as Darwoth, Raelak and couple other people have shown.
It doesn't even make it a bit harder for people experienced with this kind of stuff.

It didn't solved their problems because forum rules are too soft and you would have to caught them on using SAME IP for two different accounts :)
Btw try to use proxy and play without lags  that would solve most of spying problems.
Anyway some factions in hnh or in salem have custom clients that can check IP's and got keyloggers, so you know two games that allow this ;)
