[Jamestown] Trapped on a medium sized island

Postby esotericr » Mon May 13, 2013 12:44 am

As said in the title I appear to be trapped on a medium sized island. The majority of the Island is coniferous forest but there are a few other biomes dotted around, notably a large area of the slightly lighter forest. Entire Island seems to take about 30 mins to 1 hour mins to circle in a canoe. This would be a problem, but the entire far shore of the Island is mountainous. I've done a couple of circles (once on foot once in the canoe) but I see no way in or out of this Island. There are a few players about in this area (10-15 bases, a fair few leanto's).

The entire situation was great for learning the basics of the game, no one to raid me, was able to get most of the skills fairly quickly. However, as I'm getting on in the game (only about 5 more skills to research) it's kind of a bit limiting so I thinking of moving and am wondering:

1. Anyone else in the same situation as me?
2. What can I realistically do about this (I'm fairly setup in this area and it would be a pain to leave this base for no real reason)
3. Is life outside of this 'newbie island' going to be much better for me?

you probably spawned inside the mountain range, if the water surrounding the island is thin enough that you could piss across to the other side irl then that is where you are.

If you can't get out of the island area, you may just have to port to boston and walk back to the world, setting up a new claim and Homestead when you find the right spot. I would suggest leaving an alt (using a new, different account) at your current location and using it as a sort of alternate base, in the case your new place gets raided.

When you have a new place worked out, you can use that alt to transport things through boston to your main guy, who can then take them to his new homestead. The physical structures built would then be the only things lost. It is not a true solution to your problem, instead just a work around to get you back into the world.

You should village-claim the whole island and enjoy your impenetrable base :p

If it's the place Darwoth thinks it is, and the one I'm thinking of, then I doubt there's enough silver on Jamestown to claim it all :P Although there is an actual island that's kind of tiny, surrounded by deep water around the same area :P

considering the smaller island - is making such a base even legal? afaik impenetrable vaults in hnh used to be nuked by jorbtar? Or am i missing something? (my line of thought: only water around = nowhere to place a wasteclaim)

I have a character in this same area I believe. Started on this server about a week ago. I was also wondering if there was any way out of there? Every direction is bordered by mountains. It seems like a fairly peaceful area with some seriously sick bases. Ive only picked up a couple scents and haven't been robbed or raided. The area is huge and would take a kings ransom to claim.

waste claims have a range of around 1,000 tiles, so far i have yet to see an island that far away from the shore let alone a small land dot that usually speckles lakes.

Ya that smaller island isnt far from land at all. If its the one im thinking of it also has a small lake in the middle of the island. Trying to map the whole land mass is a pain. Most of the middle is rough terrain and slow going.
