What am I doing wrong?

Good Afternoon ladies and gents,

I have been playing since Jan/Feb having played a few tester characters to get the taste of the game, building bases in ridiculous places, hiding away from greifers and raiders.

I read here and there that only a fool cant get their humours up past 40, and I find this incredulous, that although I can play roughly 2-3 hours a day, having built 2 large well equipped bases (first one was raided shortly before the wall was completed, Plus was in a stupid place all things told)

I cannot for the life of me get my humours up more than 1 at a time.. with LOTS of effort at that.

My humours are 33/25/22/21 and i am currently grinding cabbage cakes for black bile.. but it takes a number of them to just get that 1 point.. SO i set to and start to look at purity improvements.. and regardless of my 68 s&C (all except M&M are 50+) out of 10 cuttings I get 1 sapling. My worms which i fed up to 3% (merc) and my 6% water seem to offer no help at all in any part of the process. (bar maybe 26 merc plants and couple of trees)

I can get humble meat pie to grind the phlegm up nicely.. but for blood yb and bb? I am really struggling.. I used to hoard mushroom pies.. until they are now poisonous without processing which i am hurridly aiming to resolve.. but even this does not offer me the development that i need.. My base location is blessed wiht a few deer but little ground suitable to fight them on and there may be beavers a short way away on a good day.. rabbits and crickets a plenty.. but i have never ventured far enough (yet i have been to darkness and back) to find a turkey and so have not invested in a turkey coop yet.
What am i missing? should i fish more? should i go ape on the wildlife until my fields yield purer foodstuffs? I cant earn enough silver to buy stuff (for now as I am busy expanding my base to encompass my farming and gardening tasks)
Should i go ape on my fields to produce higher tier foodstuffs now that it matters?

Advice please inhabitants of salem? What am i doing wrong?

Hey,

You don't seem to be doing anything really wrong,you just need to adjust it a bit to make it work. You should be able to reach 50 biles at some point with no purity without too much trouble.

For the bb for example it's quite simple,you just eat LOTS of cabbage cakes. They lost some of their value with the latest update,but they are still reliable. Also now most meat pies give bb. So eat a couple deer/beaver meat pies + cabbage cakes and you should be good. You will need quite a few pies but hey,welcome to salem:P

They same goes for other humours. Mushroom pies+ wildbeery pies will give you YB. Shroom pies+Cornmeal flatbread will give you blood. And for phlegm use pumpkin pies+ otameal crackers.

Some of these may not be the best gluttony food out there but they are easy to make. Also after the latest update,new food will emerge with all the possible combinations available. Also don't worry about the shroom poisoning,just eat them,you will still raise your biles.

As for trees,since they are really slow and boring to farm, try working on tiers. They are easier to reach and you will see improvement in your foods.

Finally,don't listen to those who go around the forum insulting newbs and telling them what they should or shouldn't have achieved. And ask any questions you have,most guys in the forums are actually quite helpful.

if you make enough food you can get to 120 - 150 humors on 0% food without to much effort.

The best I can offer is a menu to at least get your humors leveled. My personal experience with humors between 20-40 is as follows:

Pumpkin Pie = Phlegm. You should not have to eat more than 3-4 at a time to get to 35+.
Cabbage Cakes = Black Bile. 3-4 Cabbage Cakes for each point gained is to be expected.
Aztec Abattoir = Blood OR Yellow Bile. This one is trickier. You need to eat another food with the Aztec Abattoir in order to direct your gain toward Blood or Yellow Bile. If you eat only Aztec Abattoirs then you will likely get an increase in Blood, though Yellow Bile can hit occasionally. In order to ensure that you get Yellow Bile, you need to eat a Shroom-on-a-Stick, or a Wildberry Pie. If the Aztec Abattoir fires the BLUE event during gluttony, you will have to eat 2 or more of the Shrooms-on-a-Stick or Wildberry Pie to overcome the Blood gain of that event. You can also eat a Devil's Wort to decrease blood gains.

Overall, I think that if you make 24 Pumpkin Pies, 36 cabbage cakes, 24 Aztec Abattoirs, and 16 Shrooms-on-a-Stick/Wildberry Pie (total, not each), then you should be able to get all your humors to 33-35. Once you are ready to increase Blood again, combine Aztec Abattoirs with a couple Cornmeal Flatbreads and you'll be on your way to 40 for all your humors.

There are other foods that you can use to get started on each point gain. For example, in your case you want to avoid any gains to Blood until you get rebalanced (if that is your concern). Therefore, you can start each new point with a food that could give significant points to anything but blood. "A Simple Sunday Steak" is an example of a food that will start you off with points in anything but blood. This gives you a nice start to whichever humor gained the most points on that event.

Regarding tier versus purity. I have decided to focus on tier until I establish a tree farm and get my earthworm pythons fed the right stuff. You can probably get to 50 humors on the diet I prescribed, but you will need the higher tier stuff (since recent update) to do it more comfortably, I think.

These are not the only options, just the ones I have had the most success with recently while raising humors on 3 alts. My goal is to get them each to 50/50/50/50 using this menu. Also, I avoid fishing because I don't like the mechanics of fishing, nor do I have all the equipment or locations of fish I would want to use for gluttony (Cod Rolls in Lobster Sauce).

plant cabbage cerials and pumpkins , cook some pies and you should have no problem getting to 50. i do have a problem tho my biles are all around 60 expect for yb that is 36, and last time i tried to raise it i spent like 200silver in cabbage rolls to get the awesome amount of 0 points that timer just raped my ass so hard...

200 fields of WHAT? 6 Bread ovens for what purpose? What about Baking tables, barrels for water and flour, dry gods bags, buckets, boxes or chests for storage? Your "help" was no help at all. How big do you think his Personal Claim is? Do you suggest he spend 4000 silver to cover 200 fields and all the infrastructure required to follow your "help" to raise humors above 40?

I thank you all (including Darwoth although his 'simplistic' approach wont really work for me due to sheer time constraints, no matter funding the venture).. I will just crack on with it then.. and see where another month brings me..

The key is eating a varied diet for a hermit. Beavers are your friend when it comes to raising black bile as Beaver dam and Brazed Beaver brain (use wild garlic) are great for Black bile gain (use garlic bulb for Phlegm). With the recent change to how food now works I have found the best thing to do is to experiment with your ingredients (mostly meat changes for me as I am still working on getting tiered crops) and write down the results - it is actually a lot of fun trying to see which combinations are best for what you need. Humble meat pies are also a big help as they can really help as a finisher to push your bars over the threshold on all of your humors but Yellow Bile, for that I use Cabbage rolls made from colewort and rabbit.
