A few questions on Hunting

Postby the_pilgrim » Mon May 13, 2013 9:57 am

Would appreciate some advice on Hunting:
1. Can one practice hunting safely within Boston / Capital Cities? I've read that if you lose a fight with an animal, you get knocked out. Can other players murder you while inside the starting city territory?
2. What are the recommended skills/humours to start hunting rabbits and crickets? What are the recommended equipment?
3. Is hunting a decent way to make silver for basic supplies and an initial claim?

1) Yeah, you'll be safe as long as you don't leave Boston claim.
2) You can kill both with just 5 humours and small game hunting, but 10 blood and ybile makes it go a lot smoother. Practice on bunnies first, though, they're weaker than crickets. Backalley pugilism helps a lot, uppercut does a lot more damage than punch. And a sling is a must when you're just starting, you can't really spare the ybile and blood to get aggro with stomp.
3) Yeah, grinding crickets is the main way to get silver until you get high enough humours to grind agropelters.

1.Do not conduct hunting in Boston claim if you carry stuff you dont want to lose. Other people will take your stuff if you KO. This if you are unsure whether you can win or not.

Noted. Do you drop everything you are wearing, or only the things you are currently carrying?

Thanks for the answers. Do you have any particular tips or strategies in beating rabbits with low humours?

I've heard that combat works very differently here compared to HnH. If skill > humours is true, maybe low humour hunting is possible for a newcomer.

You'll only drop stuff your are carrying. E.g. Your coin purse or your clothes will stay with you - if assigned to the right slot. Not sure if it can be still stolen while your body is lying around.

Noted, will try it out I guess. If Boston works like a village claim, then they shouldn't be able to grab stuff from a knocked out body as it would be "Theft".

In any case, I won't have anything of value on that character at this point.

Shoot it with a sling to get it aggroed. Each time when it runs towards you to hit you, punch it. If you have guard on, you can comfortably exchange blows until it's dead. You can do it with crickets too, but there's less room for error. If you can use uppercut instead of punch, it'll go a lot quicker.

Thanks. Will try out hunting in a bit.
