Salem Population Tracker

Postby Etherdrifter » Thu May 09, 2013 7:54 pm

Hey there, just starting this thread as a repo for data on player numbers.

Will try to add in daily data values (samples will be taken at 11pm uk time).

If you want to contribute a data value just post it up with a timestamp.

Example is below. Dates in the uk format if you would!b D/M/Y

9/5/13 (19:54 GMT)

Plymouth
Users 65

Roanoke
Users 102

Jamestown
Users 76

Edit : Darkside very kindly put together some data tracking over time. Thanks!

Darkside wrote:I updated my page with a new chart - shows pop from last week in 1 hour intervals (where I actually average out the 15 interval data points per hour)

I also started capturing HnH server data so sometime tomorrow I can start showing an HnH graph and a HnH vs Salem total graph

Let me know if you have any requests on what else to do with the data capture... like for example I am planning to make a table of certain data highlights like highest/lowest # of users recorded per server by date & time and overall averages by day/server/etc

I guess they want to track player population over time. Of course it would be better to do something similar to google analytics

I personally track the server statuses 2-3 times a day. Peak EU 100 on roanoke, and 60-70 on Plymouth and Jamestown. Peak NA 40-60 on plymouth, 60+ on jamestown and less than 100 on Roanoke. It has been that way for weeks, and the numbers don't even fluxuate that much on the weekends.

You have a record of your datapoints? Does it go back far? I'd love to see a graph of the last few months.

9/5/13 (00:40 GMT)
Plymouth 49
Roanoke 66
Jamestown 61

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

I've been keeping a general tab on the numbers also and the biggest slide in population happened several weeks to a month before the purity patch when the HnH lag was fixed and became general knowledge. People started leaving then. After that, the death of the Rebellion on Plymouth and the Purity fix were other factors. Now who knows what's going to happen. I meet new people and there are plenty of open Beta people that are growing their characters but it just isn't replacing all the other people who have left.

A bit late to start tracking this and garner anything useful, but if you're serious about doing it, I'd suggest a small script in something like PHP to pull the numbers off the website once an hour or so. You could then track this easily for months or years.

At the very least it will give us a bottom line to see if it's growing or not.
