May 6th. 7am Salem Forum time:

Plymouth .....32
Roanoke ......54
Jamestown ...34

Can we please see cheaper stalls for active players. This is getting ridiculously hard to sell anything.

I am reading this thread with disbelief. Why complain about a temporary set back of player numbers? You stall owners are set for life unless they completely remove the stalls. There are even rumours that us noobs can sell to the player stalls! Complaining about this is a mockery of us "have nots".

Even though we were lucky enough to recently acquire a stall, I have to agree with wath dageir says here. Stop complaining. Be *very* happy you have a stall. Hunt 8 agropelters, should take less than an hour, and you can pay your rent.

I'm pulling 3 of them on plymouth and I have NO problems whatsoever making ends meet. My only problem with the 15% tax is that second hand selling things is out of the question. Would be nice to buy metal or hay in bulk and resell it. With the tax you can't really make a good profit.

I maintained my stall for months this way, even when keeping my cut to the minimum.

Good point there. However, if there's going to be so few stalls available, then it'd be a "first come first grab" thing and you end up with a few people controlling a large portion of the silver flow. This, I don't think, would be good overall. We can see what artificial constraints does to real life economics.

However, Procne makes this whole discussion sound like a typical business owner when new taxes are proposed. "But I can't make a profit (as large as I'm making now). My kids would have to shop at Wal-Mart instead of Macy's."

--------
I have two thoughts on this that may or may not effect the decision on taxes and stall upkeep:

1. Silver is the primary source of income for the game. In this case, you need a slightly negative silver flow to always encourage someone to purchase it from the store. Those that run a stall or any other method of obtaining large sums of silver without a store purchase may be immune to needing to use the store, so some method is needed to discourage these. (Taxes, rent)

2. Silver really isn't considered a primary source of income for the game. Silver sales will be nice, but silver sales will be a smaller percentage than bonus packs, starter packs, and "hats". In this case, if players find ways of making large amounts of silver from industry, trading (with or without a stall), it won't be much of a detriment to the profitability of the game as long as some sinks for the silver are added in. (claim and town upkeep, small amounts of stall taxes)

Outside of the silver flow issue, one has to look at how selling to a stall will be dealt with (when/if implemented). If taxes are applied both ways with the seller pay the tax each time, then taxes could reasonably be cut down (to say 7.5%) as you're still taking about as much out of the silver pool as before.

I'm going to repeat this again - currently there are no abandoned stalls in cities. And if any gets abandoned then someone else quickly snatches it. To me it means that demand is still higher than supply. In free market economy price should be going up then. I simply refuse to accept any argument of the "stall prices are too high" kind as long as all stalls are taken. In fact there is only one way to properly balance stall costs - to have them constantly raise when all stalls are taken and fall when there are free stalls. And not depend on number of players.

With stalls being so limited in number it should always be most resourceful groups / people controlling them. Darwoth and MM can control multiple stalls on their servers, and even while complaining about prices, they still hold them. Even when most of their stalls are empty. To me it just means that stalls might still be too cheap if people are willing to hold them without using them. Fortunatelly Darwoth is willing to sell his stalls now so the situation may change on Jamestown. Time will tell...
