Worm feeding mechanics?

Postby Powowclouds » Thu May 02, 2013 8:26 pm

Im trying to understand how to feed my worms. I have searched google and and Oh Crap, How do earthworms work (just a math contest) thread. However i cant seem to find the basic feeding mechanics for them. IE where to put food, how many worms per conainer... If someone has a link to the original thread about this i would appreciate it. The Oh crap, etc thread takes up all the searches on this forum. :)

Thanks,
ROC

Really simple actually, just put worms in a container and some plants and the worms will eat the plant next to them (the one in an adjacent "box") every 12 hours.

Can you put more than one worm in a container? Does the worm choose which box to eat from as there are four adjacent boxes? I had two worms per container with plants on all four sides. It seems only one worm per container actually "ate". Just my bad luck, as the worms were sharing a adjacent box in between them?

You can have as many worms inside of a box as you want, but obviously the more worms in the box the less food you can fit for them to eat.

My suggestion is to take a wooden box, place 5 worms across the middle row, then place food for them across the tops and bottom rows, like so:

Code: Select all
F F F F F
W W W W W
F F F F F

where F = food and W = worm

Then you can come every 24 hours replenishing both rows of food

Yes as many as you can fit. Well they eat one of those four plants, maybe you were just unlucky. I put them like this

ppppp
wwww
ppppp

worms in the middle so they have to eat for 24 hours.

I'm using a bit different layout. 3 worms in an urn like this:
Code: Select all
F_
WF
FF
FW
FF
WF
F_

That's 3 food items for each worm and 2 empty spaces.

In a chest:

W F F F W
F F W F F
W F F F W
F F W F F
W F F F W

Thats what I've been using.

Does anyone know if container quality effects worm Q any? Ive also been using the urn method as you can get 6 worms with 36 hours of feeding in the same spot as a wooden crate.

Thanks for the help.

I haven't tested it but i am pretty sure that the container quality doesn't play any role in worm purity.
