CAVE IN!!

Postby DemonEyes » Mon Apr 29, 2013 11:39 am

Okay, I fell foul of the new mining mechanic.. (I must really suck with M&M)

Mined a boulder and saw the dust falling.. I then erected a mine support a short distance away from the dust thinking this would stop it (i.e. the cave in spot was within the orange circle)

it didnt.

I now have 9 random blocks within my mine (into the starting mined area as well).

Is there anyway to stop the cave in after it has started? or is it a foregone conclusion and we should shore up our mines in advance?

newsposts can often be a problem to interpret.
What I get from https://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6172 is that you need to build the mining support directly under the smoking tile. The orange radius simply illustrates what area it will prevent/help preventing future collapses.

personally, I just built mining supports in all my mines so that their radius covers all tiles. I haven't mined since then, though (enough ore boulders were mined out right before the update).
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

So if this happens in a place I cannot get the support located (for what reason i dont know) but it was down a 1x1 'channel' I was mining out and the support wouldnt place down there.

I dont have enders client so I dont know the tile configuration.. but to be fiar I didnt have a lot of time to muck about anyway I had just enough time to grab the boards and nails , build it and move away (chopping boards is so slow)..

I intend to use this as a learning opportunity and now have a chest with the required items located near the ladder for future emergencies

Added piece of info.. the new 'walls' also need to have a fire lit on them to break them up.. (which seems a bit strange since they just fell out of the roof!)

It does seem strange. The announcement said they'd be mineable.

Mineable inthe same way that the normal tiles are mineable.. but yeah this seems an annoyance measure more than an interesting addition.

Okay, when these tiles are mined they give stone rocks (would be nice for a chance at granite?) however where the cave in occurred ON TOP of the support I cannot mine this tile (using default client) any ideas? Or should i report it as a bug?

Definitely sounds like a bug.

I too suffered a mine cave in because I failed to build the mine roof support directly under the caving in tile. I was trapped with no hope of rescue. I emptied my inventory and traveled to Boston to escape. I only lost an axe, shovel and some food. My mine is now properly shored up to prevent future cave-ins (I hope).
