Small suggestion, improve these, there are many things you could do, but the first:
Chat history, the amount of time I have to say "sorry missed that", perhaps display messages for longer than 1 second also.

there are a lot of custom in-game commands, and even myself (who thinks to have been playing long), learns a new one from time to time

One way would be to check the tooltips on the various buttons in the UI. In this particular case the chat button. ;)
