lachlaan wrote:Hans, I think you left out a few troll faces to clarify the nature of the post :P But since we're on the topic of "Purify ALL the things!" , I also propose air should have different purities, that change based on the purities of the alchemical fields of all the things wind passes through. This could affect both the purity of your flame, since fire ultimately needs both the fuel and the oxygen to burn, and also other things like your drying racks. Perhaps even the compost bin. More wind of a certain type could dry up the compost, or just shift it slightly towards the wind's alchemical composition ¦]

Yeah I thought I'd go for the subtle approach, hoping that:

would be enough of a clue.

Also, awesome vid, I'm not sure how I never ran across that before.

Anyways, I wonder that this idea hasn't gotten more support from the Fire Clan...

I've done a bit of chemistry in my time, and i don't ever recall the "purity" of the flame, or what was used as a source of heat, ever making a difference in what I was doing. On the other hand, you had to be careful about just about everything else--source of heat (hot plate or open flame), containers used (glass, plastic, etc), filters, purity of water or other liquids, the papers, etc. In reality, alchemy was just a precursor of modern chemistry, though in legend you did have all the strange stuff such as transmutations. Even then, if you're using closed containers, such as pressure cookers, alembics, test tubes, etc., the flame should never even enter into the equation.

Compare this to blacksmithing. The heat source has a direct effect on the resulting metallurgical processes. The carbon and sulfur from coal can be worked into the blade and are completely necessary for purifying the steel (the carbon, not the sulfur). Compositions of iron ores and carbon deposits from certain areas were why some regions had superior quality steel. Add in what you use to quench the blade with, and it can be a complex process.
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.

wow the humour gods are STILL growing. I very much doubt there are 1000's walking around. A couple of 500's per server, at the most.

I think this thread sends exactly the message it is supposed to: we - the salem community - are simply CLAMORING for purity on ever more stuff.

=> Purity on hovels/houses to determine the result of alchemy stuff put inside.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Ooh I know purity on containers, and if you put high purity items in a low purity container they lose purity over time.
