Unused Stalls in Town

Postby schleek » Tue Apr 16, 2013 12:15 am

This has to have been mentioned before, but I am hoping to reinforce the need to improve the stalls in town.

I am on Jamestown, relatively a new player, playing for a month now. For that whole month of play there have always been owned but unused stalls in town.

While I would be happy with a solid system put in place to make the stalls go back up for grabs if unused in a fair way. I am even willing to accept a budget patch fix. That would screw the real lazy stall owners. Like putting a limit to the # of days a stall can be empty before stall gets put back up for sale. This is still easy to exploit but, at least shows an attempt to rectify this issue.

Stalls are gold I want one!!!

Current trading stall regime makes Ayn Rand cry.
Heavier upkeep or a requirement for activity on stalls wont make her happier.

...My god. He's griefing THE ECONOMY!

As a devout capitalist, I'm sure that this temporary market imbalance will correct itself eventually without the need for any external intervention. ¦]

In its current form the stall system is broken and it may as well not even exist.

It only allows a very small amount of the community to actually sell stuff on it.

And many times the stalls are simply empty.

What they really need is more stalls in more 'districts'.

These districts could have different requirement. Such as rent costs, min inventory levels, min sales ect...

Then the system could move sellers down districts if they are not meeting the current districts requirements. Or give an opportunity to go up if they are.

This would make the different districts have different qualities. So players will want to try and get their stand in the district that gets them the best traffic/business.

This would also push the vendors that are not restocking or just holding high priced items in their stall down to the lowest district.

This system is even more broken than I thought if some players own more than one stall of an already limited stall pool.

Two of the first MMOs I played was Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2. Which may have a system that Salem can mimic. where your player can physically setup shop in town. So when you can no longer physically play, you just go afk in town and setup shop. Hopefully upon your return you have some new silver.

Well since they've made it obvious that they totally dislike the idea of a centralised trading place, i.e an auction house wouldn't it be more favourable if they allowed the players to expand 'boston' by constructing trade districts themselves. Say each town is permitted to construct a relatively small trade district that then allows the construction of player owned stalls within that town. stall construction mechanic could very well be similar to a stake claim where the player provides all the materials including a writ, a 'writ of commerce' for example that would be purchasable from a game vendor for a significant amount.

Adding on this maybe they could have it where players could make a market in their personnel claim or town claim that can have stalls built in it. Then maybe have a place in Boston where you can teleport to the different places. These areas would have to apply to be under 'Boston Law' so people could not be attacked in the market and could teleport out as if they was in Boston limits.

Such a think could have very high skill and resource requirements so it is would not be something that could easily be set up just for a local gate.

Also the owner should be able to set the requirements on the stalls and be able to get a percent of the rent payments. Maybe they have to make large regular payment to Boston to maintain law and the access. And then they make their money off stall rent, a percentage of sales and their own sales.
