not really, every game i have ever played has the quitters that leave once they fall behind then spend the next several months demanding a fresh start, eventually one happens, they all play for 2 - 4 weeks until falling behind and quitting again. leaving a completely dead server in their wake.

rinse repeat, eventually after their 3rd or 4th restart they go into "lol you still play THAT game? i quit after getting **** on so obviously im better than you" mode the morons at warcrap never learned this and that is why they have 50,000 servers with no players in spite of many million retards that play their game.

That's why there should only be one server, ever. Either people are enticed to compete in the initial stages of a new server, and pay out of their ass and play 20 hours a day to get a little edge, or they have no choice but to play on that one server, like in Eve Online. Many games use the first tactic as a quick and easy money maker, which is simply exploiting a gamer's ego and desire to achieve and attain status. However, when a game has a permanent single server, the game has to be based on skill instead of just grind efforts. That's what I like about Eve Online, how a small and insignificant ship can cause so much destruction with a little skill, even after the game running for 10 years, and still they are updating so noobies can get into the game easier with their entry-level ships.

It works in terms of server life and monetization. The contents of the game itself were not part of the argument.

maybe your playing the wrong game then. this isn't finished and as a result many things will become unbalanced, when perhaps things are looking more complete or at the end of beta we would have some new worlds. people would welcome the challenge of starting fresh within a new set of rules and boundaries.

your cavalier attitude and pitiful excuses is nothing but an attempt to shadow the fact that you've wasted countless hours playing this game on a single world already, grinding high biled characters all in vain. how long did you honestly think the lifespan of a server in a beta would be before you threw a ton of money at it. we know your butt-hurt, and people may be retards for the reasons you gave, but they're not 'your' retards.

I very much doubt people are in favour of a new server because they feel like they're 'getting **** on' to think so make's it sound as if you're the one doing the '*****'.... o wait, yes you are. recent updates have made it near impossible for other people to gain the upper hand and in your eye's that's great and how it should be in a finished mmo, but this isn't a finished mmo.

blah blah blah, what difference does it make whether "new worlds" are added now or ever once server travel is here?

Meh I was doing awesome when I quit. I had just taken over a big plot of land, repaired it, terraformed a bunch of it. My humours were getting up there, I had tiered farms, powerful friends.

I quit for three reasons: Low pop, unfinished state, and a promise from the devs that there was no wipe planned at release (how do you "release" a game with no wipe from the beta?).

Unfortunately the former two problems won't ever likely get solved. The game just doesn't have the budget to develop quickly enough (one or two programmers hacking away to put out minor weekly patches just won't cut it). At this rate, the game will never actually be released - mind you, even if it is, the aforementioned lack of a wipe will make the release meaningless.

Anyway, that's my two cents. It's a shame, because Salem is literally my favourite MMO presently. If only it had a bigger budget and smarter dev's imagine what it could have been. Hopefully they change their minds and agree to either wipe the servers at release (if it ever comes) or, at least, start a new server (mind you, this would make pop issues even worse).
The sweat and blood shed by its people had established a strong foundation upon which the most powerful entity in the world would be built.

Statements like "imagine what could've been", and "this concept has so much potential", are phrases you hear in pretty much every mmo type game. Reality is that no game will attain that kind of perfection or even a fraction of the imagined perfection. We have to take what we are given, and do our best to stay constructive, patient, and reserved amongst all the dissatisfaction and worries.

It's my favorite mmo as well. I have not yet supported the game, but I figure I would with the start of a new world or wipe, mainly because I like the alchemy system, or what it's going to become in terms of difficulty.

The game gets very regular updates, if you stuck with it then that would be +1 population, your attitude will kill the game I'm glad you are leaving.
The game is commercial beta - the game is very close to being released.

(many of the population are out there hiding from you & me - in fact I saw someone the other day and he quickly logged off  )
