Farming and more animals

Postby adheckert » Mon Apr 15, 2013 2:38 am

Being frustrated about the many changes to farming lately I decided to list my suggestion here instead of cry about the current system and not offer any alternative.

I like the idea of the worms playing a bigger part as in real compost having worms is a huge help. I like that any crop going in doesnt matter on purity as worms eat anything. I would change that meat should not go in as most composters know that meat can create disease. The purity of the wood and nails made to make the compost seems silly as it doesnt matter what you put it in as long as it gets air and water.

I would require rotation of crops and plowing of fields to help boost purity. Then we can introduce Oxen, horses, and dogs. Each can be used to pull a plow of different effectiveness. (metal and wooden plows) They should also have phlegm that needs food to replenish. All three of these could also be used to pull carts. making moving around a lot easier. Taking it further would be how you tend to the field. Maybe have weeds grow and if you weed every day then the crop will be more pure. Also if you water and add fertilizer everyday its helps the purity as well.

Im sure someone smarter can come up with good formulas for what should effect what. But I think it would make people happy to introduce new things to fix purity issues than just to keep messing with current things and angering everyone as we never know whats going to be good. If adding purity to wood is important to you then make it as a source of durability for the things you make with it but not the purity of things that are put in it.

Well, whether they are planned or not I for one want pigs, both to give another possible resource to consider during raids, and for the potential hilarity of characters carrying around pigs in that brawny, muscleman pose they use to carry everything now. It would be funny as hell to see people carrying around livestock like that.

We could also get the spectacle of people getting killed because they were greedy and thought they could get away plodding along with a pig, only to frantically put it down to try and run, but too late, as they still get caught.

Pigs aren't the worst choice really, because they were an early and widely adopted form of livestock in colonial america. They eat EVERYTHING, and don't really need much maintenance. It wouldn't be weird at all for the devs to add small herds of feral swine in the woods.

We could add tasty tasty BBQ recipes for our new meat type too. They would take a long time and sophisticated cooking skills, but be pretty good food. (And yes, BBQ was relatively popular in a lot of the colonies because it's GOOD and because it's easy to eat with bad/few teeth.)

The feral swine would also be amusing because it would add another rung to the "stuff you hunt" ladder because they are pretty vicious. They wouldn't mess with you (except maybe boars) but it would be worth fighting them if you could take them. Maybe somewhere between beaver and deer toughness, with boars maybe being tougher than deer.

Animals have been suggested and discussed in Ideas many times over, including pigs. Please search before starting threads in Ideas to see if the idea has already been done before. :D

Im suggesting them as a fix to the current farming system which I dont believe I have seen before in the ideas area. I am more importantly suggesting that the DEVs start implementing new things into the game to fix old problems. That way people are more distracted by the new shiny changes than the pain of change to farming for example.

No bandaids will fix the farming. I am waiting for domestic animals more than anything, but I'm not playing unless this purity trouble is fixed even if they release 5 new domestic animals. Just think... to raise your cows purity you must feed them so&so purity crops that have so&so purity humus raised by so&so purity worms..... blah blah blah. Animals won't fix it. It will just highlight the problem more.

Very true, animals will be lame at first because you can't raise purity. Then you'll be able to eventually raise purity after waiting goodness knows how long, but with a screwed up grindfest farming system. Lose-Lose.
