I fail so hard I can't even fertilize a field right

Postby Ravi » Wed Apr 10, 2013 11:13 pm

Ok I mist be missing something. make field. put 5 humus on field. add seeds, add things like coal and wheat for fertilizer. right? but after putting on humus I still can't do anything. I click it with my seeds and nothing happens. So what am I missing?

(oh also, how do I keep chickens in my coop? I had a bunch of turkeys in there and when I logged on they were all running around and i had to hunt them all over again)

oh and why can't I plat mushrooms or milkweed or honeysuckle?

and how do I get the dang humus to go above 0%? kinda sick of feeding it 2% fish with no return.

Do you have 50 seeds? 100% upkeep fields need the full amount (5humus/50 seeds), dropping it to 50% with woodchips makes it so you only need 2 humus/25 seeds to plant the field. Cabbage only needs 15/7 seeds at 100%/50% upkeep, respectively.

If your turkeys were running around after being in your coop, someone may have actually been in your place and let them out, they dont leap out by themselves (which would actually be kinda cool if they did)

You can indeed plant mushrooms, but only sugarcaps at the moment.

You need to use better quality stuff to dump in the bins to get better humus, as well as better wood and eventually nails to make better bins so you can make even better humus. The recent change in purity severely crippled the ability to make pure humus easily, it's a bit of a grind to do it now.

thanks :D
I've been trying to plant a whole field with 8 pumpkin seeds I found discarded in jamestown. xD
and it seems kinda random what plants you can and can't put in pots. but Its nice to have even a couple

hmm well I'll make my claim bigger so its harder to get to the turkey coup.

would be nice if i could put a single pumpkin seed into a pot instead of a whole field

You can plant New World Gourds, which have a chance to turn into Baby Bears (lil pumpkins). You can replant those bears into pots to get more, and eventually split them to make enough seeds to plant in a field, or continue potting them.

Cereal, Cabbage and Cotton can all be gotten from the white-roofed NPC stalls. They are fairly expensive, so trading with another player is probably cheaper.

Corn can only be gotten from another player. However, since corn is largely useless (null-purity cornmeal), this is not much of a problem.

The other thing to keep in mind is upkeep - if you can get one field started you can plant with half the seeds you'd normally need if you get the upkeep to 50%. Keep it at 50% and you can replant more of the 'bulk' seeds you have in a new field. 10 Woodchips are sufficient for the fresh 100% upkeep field. From then on either add 1 woodchip as your 4th fertilizer, or just 2 after 10 fertilzers. You can then build out from those fields as you get more and more seeds.

There was a good farming guide posted recently, but I can't find it. Will look for it again.

You'll use less humus to prepare a field, and fewer seeds to plant it.

The fewer seeds part is the main advantage. The initial investment to get all 4 crops running (and corn if you desire) is a few hundred silver through vendor or player stalls - so being able to make the most out of those first few seed are important.
