That was me, I must have been mistaken as that isn't evident in those logs. I retract the statement.

So, it wasn't a test then? Just an abuse of a mechanic in an unintended way? Gotcha. Thanks babbs. So far we've determined it wasn't meant to be used in the way it was by the Tribe, they didn't report it beforehand or during, and continued to exploit it after it was confirmed to not be the way waste claims are intended to work. You know you guys are pretty much calling yourselves all out for me, right?

could have spoent the money you did on the village at coles to build one in some random place and do the exact same thing without letting the world know your going to abuse ****.. #fail

Good afternoon,

Some quick corrections to misinformation being bandied about that this wasn't reported to Jorb before usage:
-The tactic used last night to protect the Waste Claim was brought to Jorb's attention the night Waste Claims were implemented. My concerns were waved off.
-I made an attempt to contact Jorb Monday afternoon, before the Waste Claim went up. I received no response.
-I made an attempt to contact Jorb Tuesday afternoon, before Jordan Coles was slain. I received no response.
-I have reported other "unintended consequences" to Jorb previously, which were used against us by the Russians. Every time the response I got was, essentially, to suck it up and drive on. Unless we demonstrate clearly how the Tribe will use an "unintended consequence" to our benefit, timely action is not taken. There are at least three other similar tactics which readily come to mind which the Tribe has had to work against, but for which the fixes keep getting kicked down the road. Conversely, tactics which we demonstrate are to our benefit have been fixed next patch day.

If killing one of Jorb's friends is what it takes to get action, then so be it. If we did not use it in such a manner that Jorb would feel compelled to fix it, eventually a worthy opponent would've started playing Salem, and used it against me and mine.

Here's another aspect not to lose sight of - the reason you're not seeing posts of dead Braves from the "unintended consequences" we've had to face, is that we have not walked into situations we can't get out of. Adapting to and overcoming an unexpected situation is generally a better course of action than proceeding blindly ahead and crying about it afterwards. Jordan Coles' death was caused solely by his characteristic shortsightedness and poor judgement (well, that and blood loss from multiple stab wounds). This wasn't even a clever trap. Walking into a cage with a cake in the middle, and only one easily-closed avenue of escape, is pure folly. If he had bothered watching that gate for even 5 minutes before strolling in, he would've seen Dan popping in at very specific intervals to see if any rabbits had come to nibble at the carrot.

Faithfully,

-Paul the Paymaster

Why didn't you report those to the proper place then? Things reported here http://www.seatribe.se/bt/ give the dev's something to actually work off of, as well as the opportunity for you to check the progress of it and/or help with a fix. A pm in irc is the dry-hump of bug reporting, do it right.

It's also pretty obvious if it's a widely known bug, it gets fixed a bit quicker, usually. Especially if it's something similar to what happened yesterday, like you say.

Oh...you reported it. That really deflated a lot of my argument. But wait, you didn't report it the right way! Ah ha! Moral high ground reestablished! Shame on you, you son of a *****. Shame on you.

That's hilarious, the tribe has no respect for Salem. P claiming the boston claim, killing every newly spawned character they see. Yeah, they want to game to survive all right.

No response when reporting tends to mean the report isn't received. Maybe a confirmation from the person you report it to first before bugraiding someone? Oh wait, if it had been on the tracker, there'd have been no question that the report was received. I wonder what the bugtracker is for, if not to report bugs on?

GG though, keep swinging for those fences.

He messaged jorb before he even went inside the walls to bash the idol, and since you can't bash when you're dead.. I guess you're wrong.

You also don't ask Jorb for a revive when you're alive. Please if you have logs with Jorb declaring it an unintended consequence beforehand then post a screen.

I messaged Jorb before I ever went inside to bash the trial. I'd attempted from many different sides of your broken wall, logged in and out, toggled criminal acts and was troubleshooting with Jorb the entire time. Also lol at you thinking that asking for a raise was serious

I'm not in the business of saving pm's and **** to post online later, btw, so you'd be hard-pressed to get me to post his pm's to jorb even had I seen them.

I will counter any future arguments with the following IRC log, which clearly shows Colsie not saying a word until after he was dead, and it also shows that public knowledge of Jorbs decision not coming until much later.

If there was anything else, I don't have it, so don't ask me to make your arguments for you.

Quick overview: 18:36 - PMP brings happy news to Salemites, 18:37 - JC's first appearance in IRC post-death, 18:45 - JC passive-aggressive towards Jorb, 18:48 - JC posting logs of Jorb saying that's not how it should be, 18:51 - <Beanieman> There is a legitimate distinction between a bug and an unintended consequence, I do believe.

[17:10] <Acid> Just like Minecraft does, duh.
[17:11] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Minecraft isn't a .jnlp, but sure why not.

[17:12] <Acid> Actually.
[17:12] <Acid> You're wrong.
[17:12] <Acid> xD
[17:12] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> So, what's its name?
[17:12] <Acid> This is the actual .salem with the .jar file and all.
[17:12] <Acid> It doesn't direct to another location.
[17:13] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> How about this, what happens when you try to run it?
[17:13] <Acid> It's in the User folder where App Data also is.
[17:13] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> How about this, what happens when you try to run it?
[17:13] <Acid> It tried to load my Ender client.
[17:13] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Yep
[17:13] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> That isn't it
[17:13] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> that's the patcher
[17:13] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> and the patcher leads to another redirecting file
[17:14] <Acid> The .jar file you can't run.
[17:14] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Which I can't open
[17:14] <Acid> You open it with an archiver.
[17:14] <Acid> But there is also the executable file in the same folder with it.
[17:14] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> You're not being clear, what do you mean?
[17:15] <Acid> How am I not being clear? ._.
[17:15] <Acid> This .salem folder has the salem.jar file.
[17:15] <Acid> And an exectuable file.
[17:15] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Did you find the executable in the archive file or is this just the file in your documents folders/
[17:15] <Acid> Which opens the client.
[17:15] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> ?
[17:15] <Acid> It's in the same folder as the .jar file is.
[17:15] <Acid> Not archived.
[17:15] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> What's the directory?
[17:16] <Acid> C/Users/(MyName)/.salem
[17:16] <Acid> Is where I found that folder.
[17:16] <Acid> Whereas for Minecraft I have to go to C/Users/(MyName)/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft
[17:17] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Do you use Java six?
[17:18] <Acid> 7
[17:18] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Welp
[17:18] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Can you actually use that .jar file or does it not let you connect to the Salem server?
[17:19] <Acid> It's letting me open the .jar with WinRar.
[17:19] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Right click the file and select open with Java platform SE binary
[17:19] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> see what happens
[17:20] <Acid> It tried to load the Ender client, and crashed like Ender's has been doing for people today.
[17:20] <Acid> ._.
[17:21] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> It crashed for you?
[17:21] <Acid> Well not crash.
[17:21] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> go into the folder called bin
[17:21] <Acid> Does the Unable to launch the application.
[17:21] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Then run the salem.jar inside that
[17:22] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> If there is a bin file, that is.
[17:22] <Acid> No bin folder in the .salem
[17:22] <Acid> Which is also strange.
[17:22] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> There's no such thing as .salem
[17:22] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> What are you looking at?
[17:22] <Acid> That's the name of the folder I found.
[17:22] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> .salem?!
[17:23] <Acid> With the salem.jar
[17:23] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Or just "Salem"
[17:23] <Acid> Yes.
[17:23] <Acid> .salem is the folder name.
[17:23] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> wut
[17:23] <Acid> Minecraft does it too.
[17:23] <Acid> The files go into .minecraft
[17:24] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> C:\Users\username\Salem
[17:24] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> go there
[17:24] <Acid> ...
[17:25] <Acid> Hold on a second...
[17:25] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> What?
[17:25] <Acid> Drat.
[17:25] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> That should exist if you use Java seven
[17:25] <Acid> Got my hopes up for a second.
[17:25] <Acid> When I used the .jar file in that folder.
[17:25] <Acid> It loaded the Ender client all the way.
[17:25] <Acid> But then when I type in my Username/Password it says: Connection refused: connect
[17:25] <Acid> ._.
[17:26] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Alright
[17:26] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> That's a start

[17:27] <Acid> Oh fudge.
[17:27] <Acid> Did I just do that.
[17:27] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> Yeah
[17:27] <Acid> ._.
[17:27] <Hustlinguistics> inb4 porn link
[17:27] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> That's what I'm seeing too now that I know what to look for
[17:27] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> I decompiled the jar
[17:27] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> I'm looking for the .class now
[17:28] <Acid> Which .class?
[17:28] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> I have no clue, but opening it with an archiver won't do any good because you can't see the code
[17:29] <Dallane> what are you guys trying to do?
[17:29] <Acid> He's trying to fix Ender.
[17:29] <Hustlinguistics> hack the gibson
[17:29] <Acid> I'm trying to confuse him.
[17:29] <Acid> :3
[17:29] <Dallane> whats wrong with ender?
[17:29] <Acid> Actually I'm trying to be helpful, but I'm not a coder.
[17:29] <Acid> >.>
[17:29] <Acid> Ender is broked.
[17:29] <Acid> For everyones.
[17:29] <Dallane> how so
[17:29] <Acid> Won't load for most people, now won't connect for us.
[17:30] <XxWeedGokuKing420xX> The .jnlp file references a dead link and crashes when it tries to load because of it
[17:30] <Acid> It worked fine this morning.
[17:30] <Dallane> lol you guys are ***** retarded
[17:30] <Acid> And if you still have it loaded from this morning it will keep working for you.

[18:15] <Hustlinguistics> yes, easiest one to base it on

[18:36] <JamesJonahJameson> Oh
[18:36] <Hustlinguistics> i know something about the tribe that they dont want others to know
[18:37] <Hustlinguistics> a very aboos related thing
[18:37] <Colesie> Talking to jorb now
[18:37] <Colesie> Beanieman, stop the aboose
[18:38] <Hustlinguistics> time to go lay down a slew of untouchable waste claims
[18:38] <Colesie> http://puu.sh/2x4ho
[18:38] <Hustlinguistics> and start leveling towns
[18:38] <Colesie> http://puu.sh/2xchP
[18:38] <Colesie> Bell was put behind the waste claim
[18:38] <Colesie> Then bell was circled around the village
[18:38] <PeePooKaKa> Goodnight Jordan Coles
[18:38] <PeePooKaKa> :)
[18:38] <Colesie> Waste claim was dropped
[18:38] <Colesie> They then put up a stick fence around the village
[18:39] <Colesie> Since it was a village claim, it was unable to be broken
[18:39] <Colesie> In theory, once the waste claim went live you could break it
[18:39] <Colesie> As intended
[18:39] <JamesJonahJameson> You have discovered : Drama
[18:39] <Colesie> But since it did not cover the 2nd bell, it was technically "not" under a waste claim
01[18:39] <Gallient> Fitting Justice for Alt Abuse.
[18:39] <Colesie> Meaning they made an unbreakable wall
[18:39] <Colesie> With dun dun DAAA
[18:40] <Colesie> Bugs :)
[18:40] <Colesie> (9:32:27 PM) Beanieman: Anything under a waste claim can be destroyed
[18:40] <Colesie> (9:32:55 PM) Beanieman: Is the waste claim active?
[18:40] <Colesie> (9:33:39 PM) Colesie: yes
[18:41] <PaymasterPaul> Colesie, you do not know how waste claims work
[18:41] <JamesJonahJameson> Hello MM
[18:42] <Colesie> Neither does Beanieman apparently
[18:42] <PaymasterPaul> Whether or not the town bell is on claim does not matter, in the slightest.
[18:42] <Colesie> I had all black skills and criminal acts on
[18:42] <PaymasterPaul> It's almost as if only one faction has bothered testing this mechanic
[18:42] <Colesie> I was under the waste claim
[18:42] <Colesie> Waste claim was active
[18:42] <PaymasterPaul> Perhaps if you spent less time ***** and more time getting your act together, this wouldn't have happened?
[18:42] <Colesie> Could not break the stick fence because it belongs to your village :)
[18:42] <PaymasterPaul> That is true
[18:42] <PaymasterPaul> You could not
[18:42] <PeePooKaKa> http://www.mercilessmidgets.com/salem/kills/210kill.jpg
[18:43] <PaymasterPaul> But not because the bell wasn't under claim
[18:43] <Colesie> Actually, we'd all buy quit playing until the next update or two
[18:43] <PaymasterPaul> There is another requirement of waste claims you do not know of.
[18:43] <PaymasterPaul> Right, you don't want those grapes. They are sour, anyhow.
[18:43] <JamesJonahJameson> Oh man, this drama in here

[18:45] <Colesie> I have 3 other alts with higher stats, so it doesn't exactly matter about the character
[18:45] <PeePooKaKa> Less posting more playing IMO
[18:45] <Colesie> It's how it was killed

[18:46] <PaymasterPaul> This from the fellow who trumpeted trying to block people in with alts?
[18:46] <mib_xmxrdi> never underestimate split fences
[18:46] <Colesie> Alts are not untouchable walls
[18:46] <Colesie> But expect those in the near future from me :)
[18:47] <Tylan> Right. Alts are just mobile gates.
[18:47] <Hustlinguistics> i remember a time when the worst bug was a spacing saving way to plant fields
[18:47] <PaymasterPaul> Colesie, I have never expected anything but the worst from you - and have not been disappointed
[18:47] <Colesie> Indeed they are
[18:47] <Hustlinguistics> ah, the old days
[18:47] <PaymasterPaul> There is no bug here
[18:47] <PaymasterPaul> There is a mechanic
[18:47] <Hustlinguistics> and it is?
[18:47] <Colesie> Mechanic pls?
[18:47] <Colesie> Pls share mechanic
[18:47] <JamesJonahJameson> ^
[18:47] <PeePooKaKa> No bug was used
[18:47] <PaymasterPaul> You have to be in the town that owns the waste claim
[18:47] <PaymasterPaul> In order to receive the benefits.
[18:47] <Colesie> Lmfao
[18:47] <Hustlinguistics> so, a bug?
[18:47] <Colesie> S oa bug
[18:47] <Acid> o.O
[18:48] <PeePooKaKa> If you are not int eh same town as the waste claim then you cannot bash thigns
[18:48] <JamesJonahJameson> Bug.
[18:48] <Acid> How is that a bug?
[18:48] <PeePooKaKa> you would have to make your own waste claim
[18:48] <PeePooKaKa> if you want to bash things
[18:48] <Hustlinguistics> how would the idol ever be broken, acid?
[18:48] <Tylan> The enemy or others shouldn't conveniently gain benefits when you put down a waste claim.
[18:48] <Hustlinguistics> if its claimed/walled?
[18:48] <Hustlinguistics> never?
[18:48] <Hustlinguistics> exactly
[18:48] <PeePooKaKa> Hustlin you drop a waste claim
[18:48] <PeePooKaKa> and break the fences
[18:48] <Acid> ...
[18:48] <PeePooKaKa> then break the claim
[18:48] <Colesie> (9:47:59 PM) Colesie: (9:47:35 PM) PaymasterPaul: You have to be in the town that owns the waste claim

[18:50] <Hustlinguistics> 5 tiles?
[18:50] <Hustlinguistics> 3?
[18:50] <PeePooKaKa> Jorb means that a dead coles is not as it should be because he took so much from so many as "donations"
[18:50] <PeePooKaKa> has nothing to do with the mechanic
[18:50] <PeePooKaKa> just unfortunate all those who donated for a wasted character
[18:50] <Colesie> Bug*

[18:50] <PeePooKaKa> Not a bug :)
[18:50] <Colesie> No one has donated to me
[18:50] <mib_xmxrdi> It might not be a bug, but something implemented in a way they didn't expect?

Hahahah! Unintended consequence is almost the very definition of a software bug.
