Maybe I'm missing a crucial feature here, but what stop someone say creating a criminal alt just strong enough to wreck your stuff, get you to post a bounty, then killing that alt for the bounty himself?

In any case I tend to agree with the idea that this should be something the players do, rather than something coded into the game.

Better yet: combat alt kills a combat alt.

Was wondering when someone was going to mention this giant glaring hole in this whole idea that has come up at least twice before. It hasn't worked effectively in any other game that has it, so why should anyone else bother with creating a system that is so obviously broken? (The only game I can think of it working in would be Entropia because game rules only allow one account, one character per player, and they enforce it vigorously.)

lol good point. People would just make a headsman to take the bounties.

Entropia is a massive grind but fairly fun.

This works in Eve online there is nothing broken aboutthat idea you just have to be able see more than just 1m from yours nose. In can be implemeted without any side effects. If money revards are placed by players there is no gain doing that. Its same system as when you ask on forum to for some one to rewange you for silver or money.
No one can force any one to have 1 account you can register 100 emails and bank accounts.
If yours other account kills yours evil crime lord so lets be it :) he evil guy will be dead yours crafter will deserve the reward. IF you wish to pay hours and weeks you have invested into that evil guy grow for booty fell free :)

1. When a scent is submitted as a bounty that scent vanishes on the map
2. Bounty scents last 1/2 as long as normal scents for tracking
3. Bounty scents have a threshold for summon (5000 silver for theft, 4000 silver for assault, 3000 silver for waste, 1000 silver for murder), if the bounty is not worth at least the amount listed then they cannot be used to summon offline players
4. Each successive scent reduces the threshold required by 100
5. Bounties "degrade" by (100 - number of evidence scents) to a minimum of 25 per day
6. Bounties may only be for one crime type (theft OR assault OR waste OR murder)
7. If a player has several bounties on their head only the most valuable is paid out upon murder
8. Killing someone while holding a bounty scent DOES NOT generate a crime

less serious the crime the higher the bounty good point... derp

I know CCP has been promising to revamp the bounty system in EVE, but I've not seen anything of it being improved. I've not played in a few years due to client updates that no longer run on my old system, but I still follow the game fairly closely. It's still a broke system that nobody uses.

Today it works quite well in EVE but there is tons of other things to to to care about than bouty and game is in more mature and balanced so it was not so much needed feature in EVE.
Still I think 90% of people agrees that fact that advanced players killing or raiding noobs on first sight without reson is someting thats should be balanced at least to make it less apealing thing to do. It should be possible to do but not apealing and riscy or expensive. Not even in wild west you could not see see 90% of towns in ruins robbed and pilaged by criminals. Sooner or later all criminals were hanged thanks to army bouty and law. If there are 2 noobs close each other and they try to wage war staling its quite fun. They can compete who makes better defence etc. But if you just meet some stranger that kills you on sight with one swing and has a just good lauch if he can do that without any los or risk.
Smart booty system is best and simple and fair way to address it.
