Raid advice

Postby FailureToThrive » Sun Apr 07, 2013 6:12 pm

Last night my farm base got raided. When I woke up this morning my stone gate was knocked down and pretty much everything was stolen. There are scents everywhere and they lead to a base deep in the southwest of the Plymouth server. There is a mysterious lean-to right next to my base. As a precaution I claimed over it. Was this a good move? I am in the process of getting braziers. My mine base near it was untouched. It was protected by braziers. I don't know if it is a single person or a group but they travelled a seriously long way to raid a hermit. I think they also killed my neighbor about a week ago. Those scents lead in the same direction. I tried tracking but after about 2.5 hours of tracking my ender client died. I don't live anywhere near Boston so I can't imagine why people would travel so far just to raid a base I just got built that had hardly anything in it? They got away with a canoe, 30 dry boards, some inspirationals, and my metal tools. Anyways I repaired my gate and walls and have got iron smelting for braziers. Only thing I have bought off of player stalls were seeds and food and they got consumed immediately after purchase. Any advice?

Southwest? Sounds like rebels raided you. Did you pay your treaty?

No I didn't pay any treaty. Never had anyone come around and ask for taxes. I don't have any cloak and dagger skills except Rights of the Englishman. I'm led to believe that the perps are foreign or keeping very late hours. I was on until around 1am pacific time last night and woke up at 6am. Things went down during that time. When I played Haven and got raided by russians numerous times. They often hit me during the same time.

Sorry to hear about what happen, You have a few options..
Id suggest just studying up what you can. Pack up & ship out.
No matter alone or in a group if they where able to clear you this time, they mostly they will next time.
Assuming your on Plymoth, your other option is to pay for some sort of protection  .
Count ya blessings! You live to fight another day! Imagine if you were online during the raid, went AFK to get a sandwich.

Is moving really good advice?

I mean, what are the chances the raiders would bother returning to the same spot? (probably 100% after they read this.)

Especially when everyone packs up and moves after they are raided.

Also, wouldn't it be faster for him to put up defenses where he is than spending days finding a new location and more days setting up a new base, which could be raided before defenses are up all over again?

Sorry for the derail here, just curious why most people suggest moving after a raid.

Well, if he stays. Its going to take more time then its worth to beef up his defenses.
Even if he does, Most of the time raider's would like you to stock up again. Even better when they know where your located.
Raids don't end after the first time, i don't know where you got that from.
The most valuable thing to him currently is his character, As a new player. He does not want to lose it.
Until hes established a few alts. That's why i stand firmly on my suggestion to get the hell out of where you are.
Why not enlist into a group or find a few friends who are willing to help.
Im sure if he travels long enough he will find a better spot. Most of the time, getting raided means your area is active.
As a newcomer, unable to defend himself. Why have him risk his character?
By raising braziers your implying that your willing to challenge the opposing. Is it not?

I wasn't disagreeing w/ your advice Boss, just wondered what the reasons for it were. Mainly for myself when this same scenerio eventually happens. It's hard to let go of an area you have invested a lot of time and money into, but you are right that the character is more important.

Im gonna probably pack up some of my stuff and prepare for a hasty retreat. In the meantime braziers are going up and lots of them. Hopefully they were just opportunistic thieves. I had a mine base very close to my farm but it was defended by only two braziers. They didn't even try and touch that. Don't know why they didn't destroy anything either other than my front gate. They could have really set me back. If they do end up coming back there will be braziers waiting and it will cost them to get at my rich 0% humus and legendary 1% ore.
