Old log vs Stumps

Postby weedaholic » Thu Mar 28, 2013 9:04 pm

I have searched the forum and read the wiki and I know Old logs are supposed to be able to spawn items but I have a small stump/old log farm by my base and almost always check stumps and old logs when walking around. I have found tons of things in stumps even a snake skull but the only item I ever found in an old log was a piece of granite which as far as I know doesnt spawn in sumps or old logs so was probably placed there by a player.

So long story short has anyone actually found anything in an old log?

Thanks for any info.

As far as I know nobody has found anything in hollow logs that spawned there.

I've found snake skins in hollow logs, and I don't think somebody was stashing them individually.

And your not mixing stumps and logs?

Are you sure Hans? I think I'm going to get rid of the hollow logs I have because it's a pain opening them and I dont think anything spawns in them.

Thanks for the quick responses and if anyone else can chime in with whether or not they have found anything in logs or not I would appreciate it.

When I was just starting out, I found the final piece of snakeskin for my snakeskin boots in a hollow log.

I don't even bother checking old logs.

After the 50th time I got stuck on one because you can only interact with it from ONE side I stuck to stumps.

Besides there are endless amounts of stumps to check with confirmed reports of snake skull yields whereas old logs are spread out, a pain and a mystery.

Actually you can Open the log from either side, but you can only Chop it from one side ;)

Still- what a hassle they are... and I have never found anything in one that was not obviously placed there by other players...

I distinctly remember finding some things in old logs (snake hides, singing old logs, ...). It is possible that someone else put them there, but since it was very early on post-wipe plymouth I doubt it.
Since I haven't found anything since, I strongly suspect that they only spawn items when the world map is generated (versus loaded for stumps).
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
