Some Ideas from a noob

Postby SirBlaze » Mon Mar 11, 2013 6:37 pm

I know this isn't the right area as such but as i can't access any of the threads and this was the only area i'm posting here

ok
firstly for either ambiance mood setting and such

Either/and/or country background noises and background music with out them its an absolutely dead quiet game
the country side is never absolutely quiet unless there's a predator around and even then you can hear rustling and agitation

2nd
mob agro
if i'm going to run miles n miles away to get away from a snake or other critter it should eventually stop trying to attack you (as long as your not kitting it) so far i've crossed 2-3 loading zones and still had them beat me up even using the run skill they've caught up and killed me.

3rd maybe a follow up on the 2nd position slightly less snake agro i'll stear clear of them as i'm relitively new and still get them agroing on me without even looking at attacking and those things are brutal on a new character.

4th a compass or a way to reset your default setting to true north makes getting around a tad easier

5th a personal map- what i mean here is a way of you maknig your own map so you know where major landmarks that you've found easier to find again instead of continually stumbling around trying to re-find

6th- (not sure if this is in the game yet or not as not that far progressed) damn making and bridge building and i'm not talking modern stuff but using mud, logs branches and rocks to make the damns ( may also be a way of attracting beavers) and simple log and rope bridges to cross rivers

7th i'm not sure if this has been mentioned but maybe a marker to designate which way the main towns are so if you want to walk it you can

8th item descriptions when your trying to craft, what i mean by this is if i want to make something that gives me better faith and wisdom i don't want to make every single craftable object i own i want to be able to look in the menu and see what it gives me as a run down

if i come up with any more ideas i will add more to this if anyone may agree with these ideas or would like to expand on them feel free to do so

Most of your problems, like the inspiriationals and the trouble avoiding snakes can be solved or helped a lot with using Ender's client. It's in the Artifice and Arcana section.

For a personal map, use http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?605616-Map-tool-for-Ender-s-client, the Salem Map Tool.

The rest of your ideas have been discussed multiple times with the possible exception of bridges, which looks new to me. If you have multiple ideas, please search for each one and make a new thread for every one you decide to post unless it's something small that you can put in the 'small suggestions' thread. All these multi-idea threads new players have been making lately are too cluttered and are not likely to be read by the devs.

1. Ambient sounds. I agree! That would be very nice.

2. Yeah, it is very difficult to escape angry animals. It's not obvious, but clicking the circle with the crossed swords turns your sword into an Olive Branch, which allows you to disengage easier. It's hard to do while running though, and I do think the system could be improved.

3. Snakes won't enter water, but that's of limited utility if you can't swim or cross the stream since they'll camp the shore. Snakes are less aggressive now than they used to be, but you'll still fall victim to them as a beginner.

4. A compass would be nice. Currently what I do is watch which way I move on the minimap and use that to align my camera.

5. As mentioned, 3rd party tools exist to do this. A way to do it in-game would be nice.

6. Bridges would be helpful but would require a change to what is walkable away from the standard terrain mesh. Dams would require actual fluid modelling as opposed to water simply being another terrain-type and so are unlikely. Both would be fun though!

7. I think this has been mentioned, but I forget who or where. It seems like an easy quick change.

8. Ender's client takes data from the wiki and displays it as a mouseover. What's amusing about your Faith and Wisdom example, is that some of the tooltips are broken, such as the "Simple Crucifix" which is the best early F&W source in the game, so Ender's client wouldn't help with that particular thing. 98% of the tooltips work, though.

Couldn't agree more about the music....ambiance music takes me back to my UO Pre-Trammel days from long ago, and I still listen while Im playing Salem.

Such music leaves a tremendous impression and sense of atmosphere...for me at least. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKHshd2p ... B373BD8132

I'm not sure what you mean by this. This is the only official forum for Salem. If you're referring to the forums on Paradox Plaza, they were closed when this forum opened.

We do ask people posting ideas that need discussion to use a different thread that needs discussion. There has been a "Simple ideas" thread for suggestions that are relativley easy additions or ideas that don't need discussion. We also ask that players do a bit of digging before posting here so that they know the flow of the discussion and what existing threads there are. This is all to help the devs filter though material, as there does get to be quite a bit here.

I do want to say that this isn't supposed to be an easy game. That's the design intent. You can get different skill levels in single player games by tweaking various settings and "cheating" by simply upping damage dealt by mobs and such. It's near impossible to do this in an MMO. Instead, the target skill level has to be decided on and that's going to be what there is.

I'm tempted to lock this thread because at first look this is just a "collection of suggestions," but there is the deeper discussion of where a couple of these come from. Otherwise, every single suggestion here has been posted previously.

Bridge building would be great! Of course, if it's not on a claim it would need to be constantly repaired.
The sweat and blood shed by its people had established a strong foundation upon which the most powerful entity in the world would be built.
