error in leather processing

Postby kozzikrathia » Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:17 am

Hello everybody!
When I try to do leather something strange happen to me: just 1 limed hide becames leather, the other 3 remain limed with the "white shadow" at 100%. It happened several times and I just dunno why: I follow the instructions described by the Wiki and until some time ago I was able to get 4 leather form 4 limed hide, 1 lime, 1 brain, 1 bucket of 10L e 1 tanning tube.
Thanks!

PS: this is what I do:

fill a bucket of water
put lime in the buket
craft limed hide
put the hide in the tunning tube
fil a bucket of water
put brain in the bucket
put tanning fluid in the tanning tube.

It was fixed awhile ago - 1 brain for 4 leather was a bug.
You now need 4 buckets of tanning fluid for 4 leather - one for each limed hide. If you add 3 more to the tanning tub, it should finish.

That's right. One 10 liter bucket of lime milk will make 4 limed hides, but you need four 10 liter buckets of brains to make four leathers. 1 brain per hide (which is actually realistic).

The wiki says you can add brains to concentrate it or add water to dilute it, but that doesn't really work too well and seems to end in wasted brains for me.

Tip: If you put four limed hides in the tub, but only have one bucket of brain, you can just use that for starting. All four hides will get to the max on the timer but only one will turn to leather. If you come back later with three more buckets of brains and dump them in, the other three hides will turn to leather instantly.

Thanks for bringing this up, too. Updating the wiki now.

edit: no I'm not. Looks like it's in a code section somewhere that I can't seem to access for editing. I'll keep digging.

2nd edit: nevermind, found it. I'm updating it now.

Limed hide without brain worthless?

Postby Chimm » Sun Mar 17, 2013 9:00 pm

Newbie question:

Does this mean a limed hide without a brain is worth nothing, because I never get an additional brain in the future to tan it? Because each new brain comes from an animal with another hide to tan. So existing (or found) limed hides without an accompanying brain to tan it is useless? Or is there something else I can do with an untanned limed hide? The wiki shows only (tanned) leather as possible outcomes.

Yes, you cannot sell or do anything with limed hides I believe.

You can just dry the hide from a creature and use the hide you've already limed to make the leather.

Bears too. Those are my source of brains. Kill bears and beavers, dry hides for selling. Use brains to tan rabbit skins for leather.
