Terraforming Trees

Postby Etherdrifter » Sat Mar 16, 2013 8:17 pm

Occurs randomly with potted saplings. Tree has a slight sparkle to animation while in pot, when planted has a slight sparkle at the bottom part of the trunk. These trees spread the types of terrain listed, terrain spreads only over dug up ground as per usual.

Oak : Spreads Planes
Maple : Spreads Maple Woods
Spruce : Spreads Pine Forest
Birch : Spreads Badlands

As more trees are added each could be linked to a specific biome.

what you mean for planes?

i'm from jamestown and near famestown there is a plain, well... there aren't so many myrtle oaks near boston but near my home in a greenish biome there is a ton of these
isn't much true making oaks (if plantable) spread this biome? (the greenish   )

Grassland is different from Savanna. The bright green biome is Savanna and is strongly associated with all things Oak. The only trees are oak, they abound in Myrtle Oaks, and have plentiful Oakworth.

Oak trees should give rise to Savanna. Grasslands will have to find their own tree.

surely grassland shouldn't have any tree at all.

People claim grassland will appear on treeless dug up areas anyway. I'd agree that if trees give rise to biomes, oak should bring out oak savanna.

There's also a biome I always think of as hardwood forest, though it doesn't seem to count as forest. It spawns a lot of mushroom and garlic, has a green/brown color, and is full of different types of trees. I suppose the elm would be appropriate for spawning it.

I like to call it it "Mixed Forest". Its floor has brown patches on a contiguous green background, it has every type of tree and unlike other forests it spawns both Milkweed and Autumn Grass (and occasionally salt), but no chestnuts or berries.

On the public Jamestown map, there's an area down south where a swathe of Coniferous and Mixed forest meet each other, and you can see the subtle difference between them in the minimap view. From far out, the Mixed forest appears as a redder brown while the Coniferous is darker. Closer you can see that their splotch/background colors are the reverse of the other.

I'm really not sure what kind of tree would be emblematic of the Mixed Forest, since it seems to have them all.
