This is pretty closely tied to the other recent thread about using clay as fertilizer. As it is, clay is an effective way to do this currently, but it's not so severe.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see something like this added with witchcraft as a hex. After all, the discussion has been about various hexes you can put on an opposing town so that you generate "numen" to power various things (such as flying on brooms).

Imho, you shouldn't be able to ruin so easily a field if the influence is high enough, cause it means you're ruining the work of weeks if not months with relative ease.
Maybe salting the field could ruin the crop planted and decrease the influence of the field of a certain amount. Doing so, ruining better developed fields would take more work.

Albeit, as one of the components is salt itself, it wouldn't make much sense to ruin a pure salt crop with salt...

Yes, could require a fair bit of salt for each stage of destruction.
1. kill crops
2. remove 33.333333333333333333% soil fertilisation
3. remove 33.333333333333333333% soil fertilisation
4. remove 33.333333333333333333% soil fertilisation
5. put soil into Defiled status

Poisoned Earth
1. 20% poisoned 24 hours to remove (after treatment)
2. 20% poisoned 36 hours to remove
3. 20% poisoned 48 hours to remove
4. 20% poisoned 72 hours to remove
5. 20% poisoned 144 hours to remove
