You get the recipe for the Humble Meat Pie before you can make the pie dough used to make it. This is what the OP refers to. In some cases, this is intentional, such as being able to make rope before you can make a loom.

Yeah, a lot of recipes come out of order. I got decorative woodcarving with wittling, which is the prereq for carpentry, which you need to actually make the boards you need for a woodcarving.

If you're playing with a group though, you can always borrow pie dough or boards or whatever.
