There's a ridiculous amount of crafting involved in Salem. I dare anyone to make a 300 humour fighter and tell me this isn't the crafting mmo.

It is all about crafting, you have to build all your own tools, find or make stuff to up your skills, and farm and bake to increase your hit points, which is almost completely unlike any mmo I've ever seen and is exactly why I love this game. I've been looking for this game for years.

But I guess you could say the name is a little misleading, since it makes people think of a farmville kinda game. The name creates the problem of attracting people who want a peaceful non combative game who then get scared off when the learn the truth, while alienating people who want violence and when they see the title, they don't even read the details and leave before they try it.

I'm not sure what can be done to fix the disparity between what the title makes people expect and the truth. Maybe change the picture to be a little more sinister, instead of just cubby puritains and a peaceful little village, maybe add an angry mod carrying off a witch to be burned at the stake.

In crafting mmo you don't need hit points unless fail during crafting means hammers hits you in head ;)

It is all about fights and murders, that is why you craft, grind character profs and biles it is more war-mmo than any other on market. Main goal of the game is to KILL OTHER PLAYERS, without this you wouldn't needed any blood and yb (half of biles?), you would need food only for regen and 10% of artifacts :)

I'm not sure what you think a real "crafting mmo" should have as the motivation for crafting, then. Just for the sake of it? To look nice?
The sweat and blood shed by its people had established a strong foundation upon which the most powerful entity in the world would be built.

You're completely missing the point where all advancement in this game, even for the characters who kill people, is done with crafting. You don't get anything from actually killing someone, except maybe some gear, no experience, no increases to skills. There is no reward for killing animals but raw materials for crafting more things. In fact, crafting for advancement is so important, that people don't even try to make killer characters as their only or even their main character because you can't only raid and pvp. The farmer/crafter who supports is the main and you can only farm if you want.

Most MMOs, by contrast, revolve around completing quests for experience and killing things in the environment for experience. Crafting tends to be a peripheral mechanic, and pvp tends to be a bonus. And strength is usually gauged by how well you can kill things, not how well you can farm.

You can get experience from stealing from other players, same with biles, go kill and get your victim food :!: I didn't said it would be easy.

In other mmos reason to level up is you gain access to area with higher level of creatures and items... here reason to level up is that you can raid more or defend better... for me it is still looking like crash, kill and destroy, not farm, grind and trade :)

Core mechanic in Salem is perma death if you haven't noticed, not economy or trading, most of your silver you are going to waste on things designed to give you protection from raids. Of course you can buy items from other players, but only reason to do that is tech-purity race to make stronger warriors, not to improve your base production or your town economy.

As for not making only single killer character... it is another reason why it should be called war-mmo you got more soldiers you got more chances to win wars.
People are making SINGLE CRAFTER and tons of murder alts... Why not opposite if this is crafting mmo? ;)
