But to raise influence i need to rotate? What happens if I just keep planting cotton or corn? The bar seems to be rising. And somewhat my initial question: does it matter which crop you start with in the rotation process?

The order doesn't matter for Cabbage/Cotton since they both drain each other's bars.

Blue Corn is more useful than White Corn since it is used in an easier recipe, so I'd aim to raise the Cotton influence first.

Getting Golden Corn will require using a lot of hay in order to raise the influence from one crop faster than they are depleted by the other, and after all that work you'll be able to make the Goldtilla, which might be a lot more useful if cornmeal wasn't bugged for 0% purity.

Oh, I also was inspired to put a lot of Corn information on the wiki. Corn pages EXIST now!

So one more question and I think I'll completely understand rotation for better crops.

Starting on a new field... if I were to plant cabbage which gives me 5% in the 1st bar and then I plant pumpkin which won't take away from the 1st but only add 5% to the 4th... will planting cereal right after that raise the 2nd bar even more so because it also takes from the 1st and 4th? Does it "use" the influence from other bars? Or do I need to raise bar 1 and 4 higher so cereal won't consume all of the influence on bars 1 and 4?

Pumpkin would still use up 1st bar even though a full 1st bar would still produce tier 1 pumpkins. Originally crops drained only the bars they use for higher tiers, but now they use all the bars but the one they fill. Anyway, crops drain 5% from 3 bars per cycle, and they fill 5% in the 4th regardless of how filled the other bars are. You can increase influence with fertilizers (hay is the best) to boost this 5% gain, and it won't affect the drain.

About this rotation thing. I think I've done it all wrong for 2 months because my bars are stuck at 3 and 8, and they won't go higher.
Does the term "rotation" mean that I should plant for instance Cotton -> Cabbage -> Cotton -> Cereal? Because that is not what I have done.

No, replant the same crop till you hit 100%, then plant another for a couple of cycles till the first crop's bar drops down to lowest point you can raise it back to 100% in one cycle. I go down to 85%, because 300% is about as high influence as I can get without spending too much time on collecting hay.

"Crop Rotation" is a misleading term, since its actual practice is nearly the opposite of that.

It would be better termed "Influence-Building" or "Field-Readying" or something like that.

Actually, that is exactly what it is. If you think farmers rotate crops every year, you're mistaken. It's done on a schedule of "Crop A for X years, Crop B for Y years, leave fallow for Z years."
