Partial solution. Have ALL goods taken from someones claim be trackable, including stuff in boxes. At least this would give u a chance to catch laundering in Boston as it is happening, and would also allow tracking of items moved from a criminal to a main characters base.

OP got it right that alts cause major issues with raiding, but this isn't one of them.

Go by feet to the crime scene.
Pick up scent.
Go by the arrow.
Make homestead where the timer stops.
Teleport to boston. Repeat

I was going by the original description where the OP says he followed the tracks to water's edge. He made zero mention of any lean-to, which an alt using the homestead lean-to to port to Boston would leave behind...as he cannot destroy it before porting to Boston. Also, I've read that some raiders use the boat to get away as it is harder for people to follow them. Use boat get out a little way down the shore. Only folks who've trained seafaring can use boats so anyone raided who doesn't have the skill will NOT be able to follow. And does the trail keep going when a criminal uses a boat? Or does going on the water in a boat possibly cut off the scent? Just wondering. I still think that whoever raided the OP most likely used a boat to keep the victim from being able to chase.

When you track someone, you don't actually track the person but their homestead. You want to get into their homestead and summon them.

Also when you track someone, or his homestead, arrow shows you direction to your target. It doesn't show you the trail / path this person used. So if tracking takes you to a shore it doesn't mean that the ccriminal swam / sailed. He could very well walk around or not even be anywhere close at any point in time. It doesn't matter how perpetrator got into crime scene, which way he came through and where did he leave to. Tracking him shows you direction in straight line to him if he's online. If you track his homestead then you get shown direction straight to his current homestead. But he can always change it.

Oh, and I doubt tracking lead you to the seashore. Most likely it was a shore of a large lake.

I it just me or did no one talk about travel weariness from Hnh,
As of now it costs nothing to to port to Boston right? What about bile costs or timers anything like that?
As I have seen, you can(should?) never really stop an abuse (other than severely changing a game mechanic)

I guess what Im trying to say is allow people to do ANYTHING but make it a huge waste of time to the point where its more self abuse.

Travel weariness would hit the hardest newbies who have no ways of reducing the weariness. And newbies are the people who need Boston the most - to sell stuff for silver and buy nails

this is a really retarded thread.

favorite part is the "impossibility" of tracking someone because it might take an hour or two
