partially true,

but it's far more dangerous imo to wander in this zone, than to wonder in the outskirts of boston.

For newer players you'd be wise to fully understand the politics before entering them.

Boston politics arnt taken lightly, and there are many a slip between a cup and a lip.

Forget that.

Or the government, requesting taxation to ensure the safety of the participating community (proven time and again) and the continuation of public works projects (the Reservation). But yeah, forget that. Who needs taxes?

If it's a government, then surely those paying taxes have an equal say in the way it's run. How about letting the treaty payers vote on a lower payment structure? But yeah, forget that. Who needs the most important benefit from taxes when you can just arbitrarily pay taxes?

Plymouth politics are simple: the Tribe and the people they scare or schmooze into paying them, and then everyone else who doesn't pay them because their hearts are too full of Liberty and Freedom.

Why do you all assume that government implies democracy?
It's a standard banana republic here on Plymouth

It's no argument. It's a politi-social fact. The balance is in where the common person sits in the grand scheme of things. Are they slaves in actual name or is there an illusion of freedom? Of course, one then has to argue: What is freedom? Does anyone truly have it?

Claeyt wrote:Of course they government doesn't threaten to kill you and destroy all of your things if you don't pay your taxes. They will fine you in excess of what you owe.

Why would they kill you and destroy your things when they can just "legally" take possession of them and profit (get their back taxes) and put you to work as prison (slave) labor? This is the only difference between extortion and taxation in my opinion.

Players pay taxes to Jorbtar's claim stakes/town bells and stalls.

Tribe acts like mafia, collecting extra fee for "non-demolishing" aka "protection" so all those government talk and arguments are invalid (aka *****).

Jorbtar, though a force to be reckoned with, will never offer you protection other than claims. After that, you have the scent mechanic and gluttony to be able to deal with your own problems should your claim-protection prove ineffective at keeping raiders out. Claims are a silver-sink. Period.

The Tribe, or any powerful faction present or future, has the ability to offer active protection as well as a promise to reclaim stolen property that has not been used not to mention bringing the offender to a quick and decisive end. To dismiss the Tribe as a governing body just because you disagree with their methods is ridiculous.

I appreciate your rebellious attitude, but I long for the day when you add something constructive to discussions surrounding the political climate of Plymouth.

Oddly enough, from the limited dealings I've had with both parties the Tribe seems to be comprised of the more civilized, gentlemanly members. I would definitely advise you side with them. The others are, frankly, barbarians.

Indeed.

Extortion, and outright Murder does in fact make them more civilized, gentlemanly members.

I've seen two of your posts, and everything indicates sock-puppet.

I don't know what to tell you. I am who I am. Just because I have a differing opinion from yours doesn't mean we can't get along...doesn't mean you need to start name-calling. See, folks? This is what I meant by barbarous outsiders.
