Poor mouse middle button

Postby Procne » Thu Mar 07, 2013 10:50 am

Because of HnH and Salem I have broken middle mouse button in 3rd mouse, within 1.5 year. Seems those are quite fragile.
No other game comes to my mind which would use this button so intensively.

Am I the only one?

Maybe that should go to ideas forum, but would it be feasible to have RMB-drag take function of MMB-drag?

I agree.

Rotating the camera involves maintaining a level of pressure that gets uncomfortable and makes me worry about my mouse. I already wore out my Laptop's left-button from playing Terraria, and I do like the mouse I got to replace it.

I've never broken a MMB with a scroll wheel before I've worn out both the other buttons. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but manufacturing quality goes a long way. I utilize the MMB on my desktop a LOT, too, outside of gaming. Need to scroll? Why wear out your middle or index finger when you can click and hold the MMB and just slide the mouse? Playing a game with mappable keys and doesn't utilize MMB? Damn, there's another key I can easily access.

I used to play a ton of FPS games along with RTS games--mostly Starcraft, Age of Empires, and WCII--before I became an MMO addict. I probably wore a mouse out every couple of years whereas a keyboard would last me a good 5 (usually broke because I spilled something on it). There's just a ton of small things to look for in a mouse that you won't see pulling one off the shelf. If you want one that's going to last more than a year or two, get some research going. I've seen reviews in CPU, Maximum PC, Consumer Reports, PC Magazine, or a variety of other computer magazines, and a wide variety of online sources that will tear apart the mouse and do independent stress testing to individual components. Otherwise, I've always had pretty good luck in the "cheap" price range with generic Logitech and Microsoft mice. "Frequent" replacement of mice is just one of the expenses of gaming, kind of like needing to replace a computer every few years because of RAM, video, and processor needs being too low. (Ok, for you kids out there, you haven't had to go through needing anything other than more RAM and better video. Us old folks remember what it was like trying to keep up with state of the art, though.)

I never could get the hang of using the MMB on those when I could just reconfigure hotkey even easier.
