It's difficult to see where I'm going on the mini-map.
When my toon is moving South, the red square on my mini-map might move North-East or some other direction.

lol, are you serious? I think people have enough trouble navigating without screwing up the minimap orientation.

Mini-map movement IS the true N, S, E, & W. If you're moving a direction other than the direction on the mini-map, it's the mini-map that is always true. At best, this should be an option, and if that's the case, then there will definitely need to be a compass rose on the minimap so we know which way is true north. (Of course, we don't have to deal with the auto-rotating follow cam anymore.)

I like it the way it is, and wouldn't be able to navigate if the minimap wasn't true. IF this did happen, it should be an option, not the standard.

Cursor, which points what direction is currently moving your character actually exists in many RPG with minimaps.

After rereading the OP, I'm thinking he possibly just doesn't realize that he can rotate the camera.

I do share sslaw003 viewpoint and the person who drew the minimap with the arrow (e.g. the camera) pointing to the left perfectly illustrates what is needed.
Please can you implement this?
